Here he comes. Here comes Speed Racer.
Do they still show Speed Racer on "regular" television (whatever that is these days)? I haven't seen it shown in years. However, we rented a DVD for my 8-year-old, and he watched all the episodes and loved them.

I wasn't at all a fan when I was a kid. I didn't like cars for one thing(cars were for boys -- Yuck!) and the weird anime freaked me out back then. However, ya gotta love that earworm theme song:

* * *

Here he comes
Here comes Speed Racer

He’s a demon on wheels
He’s a demon and he’s gonna be chasin’ after someone
He’s gainin’ on you so you better look alive
He’s busy revvin’ up a powerful Mach 5

And when the odds are against him and there’s dangerous work to do
You bet your life Speed Racer will see it through

Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer, Go!

He’s off and flyin’
As he guns the car around the track
He’s jammin’ down the pedal like he’s never comin’ back
Adventure’s waitin’ just ahead

Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer!
Go Speed Racer, Go!

1. Holy Smokes! I didn't think anyone remembered the show!!!
I used to watch it religiously when I was a kid! I saw a piece of it not long ago. One of the best episodes!! The Mammouth Car!! You know the one that, at the end , melted down into gold!! Bitchin!!

I thought there was some effort to redo the series in a more modern animated form but it was just heresay. RACER X LIVES!!

4. Well he is! Isn't he??
I kind of remember an episode like that. It seems all of those anime series have subplot of the long lost brother or father found again! If you ever watched Star Blazers, one of the lead charecters finds his thought-to-be -dead brother on some distant planet. And there was this other cartoon-I can't remember the name-but one of the lead charecters finds out this Racer X type charecter was his father, except that he flew a plane instead of a car. All of the lead charecters dressed up in suits that made them look like birds. One guy was a hawk, one was an owl, a girl was duck, the lead guy was a falcon, and another was a bird of some type.

3. Ever heard the techno remix of the theme song?
That's one you DON'T play for the kids!. Somebody did some very clever editing with Speed & Trixie's voices

6. What are Speed and Trixie doing?
I am willing to bet Stridle and the monkey aren't around. Am I right?

9. You mean "Spridle"...and the monkey was "Chim Chim".
I used to watch that show every day when I was a kid -- I loved it! Someone mentioned "The Mammoth Car"; that was one of my favorite episodes.

Also, Racer X was indeed Speed's brother. He had a falling out with Pops and took off to race for himself.

I was watching an episode a few years ago and the english was translated like this:
"It's the secret film that was filmed secretly." That cracked me up.
