Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 04:31 PM by ElsewheresDaughter
anything about them?...i do know that they dropped the word analogy and added a 5 paragraph essay on "majority rule" in the verbal portion and the quantatives were dropped in the in the math portion

also that the essay will be graded on content and not grammar nor sentence structure, that they are more interested in the critical thinking aspect.

did anyone elses children take it yesterday and what did you/they think of it?

oh, and, yes she is only in the 7th grade :7

7. TIP is a great program.
That is (at least used to be) the most common one that the SAT's were taken.
Good for her! I hope that she didn't stress too much. I remember walking in the room and seeing all the 17 and 18 year olds in there. I was frightened. I had no one to talk to during breaks. I scored well, though. And I am sure that she did just fine too.

8. good for you.. yes she was a tad frightened but saw a few (4/5) other ....
kids her age there...and the test is now 4 hours(3hrs 45 min.)...it use to be what 3 hrs? my son was a John Hopkins Talented Youth Scholar which i believe is a similiar program to the Duke TIP program...only kids who score in the top 3% nationwide are invited to take the annual exam.

you must have been one brainy kid too... :toast:

9. John Hopkins is a great program too.
I don't think that they work w/ that program around here. I believe that it was somewhere in the top 3% nationwide on the various standardized tests.
It's great that there were others her age. That really had to have helped-it sure would have made me feel calmer about the test!
I heard that it changed but wasn't sure how. My best friend is a proxy for SAT/ACT tests (extra money for the three kids to feed at home).

2. I can't believe they dropped the analogies.
I got 39 of 40 when I took the test. Thank God I'm done with that stuff.

As for the essay, I think they will probably grade on sentence structure, because that demonstrates reasoning and verbal ability. That's just my guess though.

6. C-SPAN had test takers call in this AM.
They had a guy from testing service to answer questions.

The students seemed mostly happy with the test, but I don't think the dimwits watch Washington Journal.

I think they said that everything counts on the essay, including style, like varying sentence structure.
