2. What do you mean "don't submerge them"?
if I steam them they will be in a steamer...I am perplexed. I have never cooked them before. My neighbor brought me 4 of them. I don't know what to do with them.

3. Here is what I do
Edited on Sun Mar-13-05 12:23 PM by missb
Turn the artichoke sideways and cut off the top 1/2 inch of the artichoke. Cut off the stalk to make the bottom of the artichoke level.

Put about an inch of water in the bottom of a pot and put in a steamer basket. Place the artichokes in the steamer basket, drizzle a little (maybe a teaspoon or so) olive oil on the top of each one and sprinkle the top with basil or thyme or whatever herb you'd like. Cover and steam until the outer leaves easily peel away.

5. Also, I mix up a little
mayo and curry powder to make a curry mayo and use that to dip the leaves in.

4. Yum, a favorite food - stuffed artichokes
Snip the pointed ends from the leaves of the artichoke with kitchen scissors.

Push open the artichoke from the center, without breaking the leaves off.

Mix 50-50 bread crumbs and parmesean cheese, add garlic powder (liberally); stir mixture well.

Stuff each leaf of the artichoke with a small bit of the stuffing mixture above.

Add a teaspoon of margarine to the center of the artichoke.

Place in a covered pan in a steam basket and steam for one hour.

To eat, pull the leaves, eat the stuffing, then clean the artichoke heart of the smallest leaves and enjoy that as well.

10. Luck
I think post # 3 covered your earlier inquiry that I missed.

They keep for a good long while if you don't want to cook all four at once.
