5. Awww.... Thanks, newyawker and everyone.

Everyone with a birthday on the 13th of any month, knows that it can be a risky proposition because every few years it falls on a Friday.

When I was 13 years old I didn't get a party or any presents, and I mentioned to my mother that it was probably because the 13th was on a Friday that year. My mother said it wasn't true and that if my birthday had been on a Friday, she'd have known it, so I had to get the calendar and prove it to her.

In my late teens and early twenties I was homeless and for several years in a row I was arrested (on suspicion and let go with no charges pressed) on my birthday. It got so that I would spend the day in hiding as much as possible.

But somehow I've survived and now I get free bingo games from the Indian casinos on my birthday, a party at the senior center, and a VERY cheerful card and lots of good wishes on DU. Makes it all worthwhile!
