Wow - just found a cool jazz streaming site! Coltrane on now.
I was gonna listen to Progmom's jazz show, but that isn't on yet, so I played around in iTunes and found a site already in it's playlist called di.fm

here: http://www.di.fm/

Go to the page, scroll all the way down, and there's a "modern jazz" stream. They're playing Coltrane now! "Kulu Se Mama".

WOO HOO!!!!!

I have found my site!!

12. Thanks! Jazz is one area that I really, really need to start living with
I love it (except that smooth jazz bullshit), especially the free jazz stuff. I do have some Coltrane and Sun Ra, and that jazz CD that Bill Cosby did. ANd I liked going to the jazz clubs in NYC (not many, and I wish I had been smart and gone every damned week, dammit).

But other than that, I know very little.

Oh, and I have some Glen Miller and other big band stuff.

14. You said it!
Hope you have the Ellington/Coltrane Album also Coltrane's follow-up "Ballads"

Also recommend Miles Davis' "1958 Sessions" which has Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly and Bill Evans in the group.

Duke Ellington: "Far East Suite" and "Reminiscence of the Bag Band Era" which has Ellington doing all the themes of of the great Big Bands and includes a "Rhapsody in Blue" that rejuvenates lost brain cells. Ellington is the bridge between big band and modern jazz, paved the way for the likes of Monk and Coltrane.

13. This is great!!
Now that I've found a nice feed, that actually lets me know what the hell I'm listening to, I can start seeing and remembering names, and from that, maybe start building a collection both of CDs *AND* of knowledge.

THIS IS FANTASTIC!
