And the term comes from Free Republic, their message board, like we have DU. It is not a nice place, and I know, since I was a member for two years. They regularly come here and try to disrupt, which totally baffles me, since you cannot change hearts and minds on a message board. I mostly just read on FR, but, finally, just couldn't stomach what they were saying. But they continue to come here, and, often, from what I've been seeing.:shrug:

Yes, that is a vile forum. I just don't know how these people deal with all the anger that they feel. We are surely angry, and with good reason, but we don't hate as they do. *sigh*

I've learned that there's no reason to go there, since you cannot learn from them, unlike on DU. Occasionally you run into someone who doesn't belong there, but there's not much you can do, without giving yourself away. As for Rush, my mother listens to him. I truly sympathize, but I'm better prepared, since I've been on DU. I can now spot the lies in a heartbeat.:shrug:

I know that they are hateful. I think you're right. Having to defend Bush* would send anyone into a tailspin since he what he has done is just indefensible. It's been awhile since I have been on Free Republic, but, when I was, they were still whining about Monica Lewinsky and worrying if Hillary Clinton would make a run for the presidency. They were also still Gore-bashing. Small things to worry about, but that's all that they have. Sad.:shrug:

I have tried to nudge my mother into understanding much subtler issues, regarding Iraq, but it's totally hopeless. I realized that when I finally asked her if she knew who was responsible for 9/11. I had no illusion of changing hearts and minds. I expressed few opinions, except in the most subtle ways. I'd ask a question, or say how Ron Reagan Jr. was just speaking for his mother in supporting stem cell research. Where I went wrong was during the Swiftboat controversy. I think I am probably banned on FR, not by something I said there, but here. I told what I said there. I am told that they watch us closely and I did strongly defend John Kerry's military record. Everyone stood down, except this one guy who kept criticizing me because I said I refused to read "Unfit for Command." It's no loss, to me, since DU is my home, and I felt kind of unclean when I returned here. When they come to DU, they are much less subtle, and have an agenda. There's no point, IMHO, since you believe what you believe. It's only by reading the truth that you learn, and you're not going to find it on FR.:-(

my time, and no, most of them are not caught because as someone already mentioned, they aren't being obvious in here. I think they build post counts in the lounge mostly from what it looks like. Not nearly as obvious to spot here as they are in other forums, like gd and gp for example. They tend to trip themselves up more often in there.
