Is it true that 'The Rock' has come out as a gay man?
People are saying he came out on Ellen the other night.

I also read a comment of his where someone asked him if he would kiss a man for a movie and his answer was much more magnanimous than one would expect, he said that it would depend on whether the man was "tall and ruggedly handsome like me."

I know he is rumored to be a Republican, but he sure seems like a nice republican, and now this. Anyone know for sure? This would make him a revolutionary. Are there any more openly gay wrestlers?

2. No
he played a gay character in a movie recently, and in interviews, he's spoken very favorably about gay people and their influence in his life. He sounds like one of the good guys.

3. I think that would be a big no
he was on the cover of OUT for the movie that he plays a gay man in. He's doing the rounds for that, maybe this is where the "coming out" rumour is coming from.

Wrestler-turned-movie star DWAYNE 'THE ROCK' JOHNSON is urging his gay celebrity pals to come clean about their sexuality because he's convinced it will be a career boost for them.

THE SCORPION KING star plays a gay bodyguard in new JOHN TRAVOLTA comedy BE COOL and he claims the role has made him realise that homosexuality is no longer something that needs to be hidden in Hollywood.

He tells gay magazine OUT, "I know a lot of gay actors in Hollywood who don't want to come out, and whatever the reasons are I respect that.

"But I think if people love you now, and if you came out, they would love you more, and if they didn't, then they weren't real people to begin with."

edit: I just have to say I find this statement ironic because *some people* swear that John Travolta is gay. I was shocked to hear this until I saw him on Oprah and he used the word "fabulous" twice in the interview, very naturally, which in so not Barbarino.

Snoop Dogg died trying to do three-wheel motion.
MCA is dead and one of the other Beastie Boys is all fucked up from bad cocaine.
Mikey from the Life cereal commercial died from Pop Rocks and Coke.
Rod Stewart had to get his stomach pumped.
Beaver Cleaver died in Viet Nam.
Etcetera...

NOTE: This post is sarcastic.

8. And the knee jerks again.
Most of the celebrity urban legends have to do with death. I can't really think of that many other ones off the top of my head.

Ok, here goes:

Ted Nugent's dad is Mr. Green Jeans on Captain Kangaroo.
Eddie Haskell is John Holmes.

NOTE: The last two sentences are urban legends.

I didn't get your metaphor.

(I'll give you some slack because when you are in the gay community you hear so many rumors of gayness that you eventually realize just how many celebrities there are out there in the life that pass for the sake of their careers. Ally McBeal's Portia de Rossi is one that has been hiding in the closet for years, despite being photographed all over town with women- the latest making out in a swimming pool with a cute brunette- for about ten years now. So it isn't as outlandish to us to hear someone may be gay or may have *finally* come out of the closet.)

21. I heard that too, is it for real?
I just assumed it was a Hollywood thing where if a gossip rag knows of two gay people they think those two are with each other. I'll google around and see...Portia can't deal well with it, I don't think she's the "out and proud" type, but there's always hope.

Portia de Rossi has reportedly given girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres a wedding ring - as a sign of her love.

The former 'Ally McBeal' actress, who began romancing the lesbian comic last year, bought the platinum Tiffany band for Ellen's 47th birthday on Wednesday (26.01.05) - although couple are not thought to be engaged.

A source close to the couple told America's New York Post newspaper: "It signifies their commitment to each other.
Last month, it was reported Portia, who also gave Ellen a Porsche for Christmas, was having a tattoo of her ex-girlfriend's initials removed - to prove her love for her new partner.

The sexy blonde was said to want to get rid of all traces of her last love, Ringo Starr's stepdaughter Francesca Gregorini - including the initials 'FG' which she had tattooed onto her wedding ring finger as a sign of commitment.

I think Francesca is the swimming pool girl that blew Portia's cover once and for all. I'm happy for both her and Ellen.

Edited on Sat Mar-12-05 12:32 AM by jdj
The Rock:

I was lucky in my life because I had a lot of positive gay influences, and my mentor for many, many, many years is a strong, steadfast, truthful gay man, who by the way I've literally seen kick a lot of people's asses. . . he was a former professional wrestler.

WHO IS HE?

The Rock: His name is Pat Patterson.

13. I don't watch Ellen but
I saw the clip replayed on TV. I forget the exact wording but he made a comment about being a proud gay man. It was probably in reference to his character but he definitely said it in the first person. I couldn't care less if he is or isn't. He ain't my type so it's not like my heart's broken.

17. it was the way he interacted with the audience member that shouted
when he said that that made me think, hmmm.

VH-1 best week ever is running the clip and they seem perplexed as well.

But you can't count on anything anyway...I remember when the goddess incarnate Sinead O'Connor came out to Curve magazine I was thrilled...until she married a man three months later. Still haven't figured that one out, and she actually said "I am a Lesbian". She is so gorgeous, and such an ass kicker.

27. Is The Rock even a Republican?
If I recall, the source of all that was when he appeared at the Republican National Convention back in 2000, but he was merely sent there by wrestling promoter and all-around sleaze Vince McMahon. I think McMahon was also trying to send a wrestler to the DNC, but they turned him down. It was all part of some half-assed scheme to make pro-wrestling more respected and also help make friends in Washington.

“The gay people in my life have all been such a positive influence in my life, and I’m a liberal guy. Well, I’m a conservative, but I’m a liberal guy when it comes to that.”

30. Here's the transcript of The Rock on Larry King in 2002
KING: We're back, with The Rock.

You spoke at the Republican Convention?

JOHNSON: I did.

KING: Are you an activist?

JOHNSON: No. And here's the thing. The political circle is something I've always been intrigued with, and having -- I was invited. I spoke with Dennis Hastert, that was great. I sat with the former president and his wife in the president's box.

But after going through that, it's something I don't think I want to get involved with. I have my own views.

KING: You're a Republican, though, right? Or aren't you?

JOHNSON: Well, I did actually vote for Bush, absolutely.

But still, a lot of times, having not been overly involved in politics, I still weigh, and I'm still...

KING: You go with the man or the woman, depending on who it is?

JOHNSON: Sure.
