To all the New Englanders carping about the snow - STOP IT!
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:18 PM by Rabrrrrrr
You're damned lucky to have the snow that you have. The rest of the country should be so damn lucky.

I get so angry when people piss and moan about "ooh, too much snow, whine whine whine."

It's winter - you're SUPPOSED to have snow!!

At least, I think so.

I love winter, and I've had very little snow this year...

And I can't stand this "ideal" climate.

I'd like snow... I'd like rain more often. Dear God, a few sunshowers would be perfect.

I am in Montana. Snow would be good. We have some rivers that stopped running two years ago.

You get some of the coldest temperatures in the US, AND snow! THEN you can complain.

Tomorrow is the St. Patrick's Day parade...the temperature is expected to reach a high of 30 degrees. Still the eejits will dye the Chicago River green....some corporation has bought the rights this year.

6. Yet another reason to hate Chicago
Sorry, meaning no offense, but of all the big cities in the US, Chicago is the only one I actively despise. Some I hold in apathy. But Chicago - yuck. And allowing people to dye the river - that's sooooooo fuckin' lame.

Maybe it's cuz I'm a Cheesehead and had to deal all the time with those &@(%^#^$ FIBs, and because they are now destroying my hometown, and maybe because I've lived in and visited REALLY COOL cities in my lifetime (including the capital of the world, NYC), but man, my distaste for Chicago lowers a little bit more every year.

Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:55 PM by Kathy in Cambridge
well, two: 1995-6, and 1977-78. Of course, I loved the winter of '78 because we were out of school for two weeks because of the blizzard, and the sledding and skiing were great!

it should be in the mid-40s by now...

17. Same here, re the temperature... lothes in
I HATE having to wear heavy clothes in mid-March. A while ago it was snowing like hell.

Worst winters in Chicago were 1967 (The Great Blizzard) -- 26-plus inches) and 1978-79...the year that brought Michael Bilandic down as mayor.

and it's snowing again. We are totally fed up with winter, so you can have our snow. We won't really miss it. Having lived in New England myself (MA. and ME.) I think I'm qualified to say that they really have had a hard winter.

They could learn something from the good Christian republicans in our government, like Newt Gingrich, and Rumsfeld, and Condi, and our illustrious president, and Ashcroft, and Rush, and etc.

I prefer it over self-important, overdone, overhyped, over-everything NYC any day.

Go Cubbies!

And best wishes to you in all the hard work that goes into taking care of your mother, and hoping she is doing well.

(I was wondering what FIB was...cool.)

19. I can withstand any crappy weather New England dumps on me
You couldn't pay me to move away from the best schools, world class restaurants, gorgeous beaches, awesome skiing, fall foliage, excellent museums, beautiful architecture, top notch public transportation, and history around every corner. And if you want physical beauty, New England has plenty of it!

It's just that the weather sucks, people have a glass-is-half-empty attitude up here, and with our sports teams winning all the time, we NEED something to complain about! :D

21. Ummm, excuse me. It's mid MARCH!
Maybe you just don't know what we're dealing with here. It was zero degrees when I woke today. Trying to back out of my driveway involves a small prayer, because there are six-foot piles of snow blocking my view of oncoming cars. And remember, our first frost occasionally arrives in AUGUST. Think that over and maybe you'll have more compassion!

okay, saracasm off. but I still think you don't get it!

30. Dude, I'm from Wisconsin. I think I understand Winter.
I'm not unfamiliar with snow in October, nor with snow in May.

I'm familiar with the Interstate being closed at least once a year, sometimes more.

Plus, as I said in the original post, which you perhaps didn't notice - I'm also speaking as a person who loves winter and loves snow, so obviously and of course I'm also biased toward "more snow is better".

I remember a time when it was so cold, we had to put lit charcoal under the LP tank so that the LP would continue to flow and we could have heat, because it had gotten so cold it was liquifying.

38. But but there is no climate change!
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 11:35 PM by Canadian Socialist
Hello! I talk to farm people all the time in my job. They KNOW there is very definitely climate change. I was talking today to a woman who (with her husband & children) have been farming in Manitoba for over 40 years. They lost their crop last year in August from frost. In southern Manitoba. I lived there for 20 years. It was NEVER cold in August in southern Manitoba in August. In fact, it was so hot that I used to sleep in my bathtub, covered in cool water. But, recently, the climate has very decidely changed. Where I live now, in Calgary, our temps are at least 10-20 degrees above what they've been in the last 100 years. But it's not just that. Last year, we had snow every month of the year. Stop and think about that. Snow in July and August.
