3. I owned five at one time or another,
including one that I raced, then converted back to street-legal. It had about 180 horsepower and idled like a cement truck. Vroom!

I also had one that, believe it or not, was still running great when I sold it with 160,000 miles on it. Must have been a Wednesday car.

What wonderful cars.

4. This how old I am.
I used to be a sports car fan....loved to identify all the sportscars, model, date etc.

Okay, here goes (showing my age)

MG stands for Morris Garages (England)

Have seen:

MG TF, TC and TD
and of course MGA and my favorite is the pic you show - the MGB (my brother had one just like it, same color)

6. nah... too small.
Even a childless family would have trouble fitting inside it.

12. Bah. Loved my old MGB, love my current Miata.
And while my current family (married, no kids) fits in it fine, a larger family would fit in my wifes car no problem.

So, while a smaller sports car may not be practical as the only car for a family with kids, it's fine for a couple, or as a fun addition to a families "fleet."

And for those of you who believe cars to be evil, and more cars are more evil, consider this: Using a bigger car when a smaller one would do is more evil than using the proper sized car. So, rather than have one, huge car to meet any expected need, we have two, one larger car for heavy loads, and a smaller car for trips that don't involve lugging around lumber or extra people.

Saves gas, saves resources, provides fun.

7. I would say they were "cool" sports cars
but not "great" sports cars. Like Triumphs, they suffered the British curse. At least they did in America. My Dad was a Triumph/MG guy and I have lots of memories of him going bonkers trying to keep them running more than a few days at a time. He always joked about setting fire to his cars to collect the insurance money.

I say all this as a multiple Fiat owner. :P

19. Oddly, my current driver Fiat has run for 4 years
without a single mechanical problem. *knock wood* I did have to spend $1200 and a year of tinkering to get it that way though. It still has the original engine, and it still passes the smog check every year.

Do they come in a size 44-long?

15. Friends were suprised at the MGB's legroom.
The footwells were (are) quite deep. The few who found discomfort said it came from the low seating position with their legs straight out. They prefered being more bent at the knees, like when sitting in a chair. But length was never a problem.

I've been in mid-sized cars that had less leg room.

With the top up I don't recall my head brushing the roof. (I'm 6 foot tall.) And with the top down, of course, head room is infinite. That's kind of the whole point of a convertible.

9. Lucas Electrics...junk...
...which made them very unreliable. Jaguars used to have the same trouble, til Ford bought them and booted the Lucas stuff out of the engine comparment.

11. Nice "B"
I love my 66 Midget with the upgraded 1275 cc A Block.

But my favorite is still my '62 TR-3B, oil stains on the floor and all.

13. Things Could Be Worst
My first car was a 1958 Hillman Minx. It has Smiths electrics, and ONE 30-AMP FUSE FOR THE ENTIRE CAR!!!!!!

Anyone who wants more than one headlight lit at a time is just greedy.

14. Paint that one BRG, and it looks just like mine.
British Racing green.
Except I can't tell if it has spanner hubs or knockoffs.
Mine had knockoffs.
'63 MGB
It even rhymed.

17. I thought they were notoriously unreliable.
Constantly breaking down, needing parts, etc. Sounded like a very expensive car to upkeep.

18. A 1962 MGA was my very first car - it was great
although a little underpowered. There is nothing like that smell of gas and leather of a British sports car. It doesn't matter that your left leg freezes in winter because of an inadequate heater, while your right leg roasts because it's touching the gear box. Those old cars had personality and spirit that you don't encounter in plastic-built cars of today. I went on to have a 1962 Jaguar Mark II 3.8 and a 1972 Saab 96 v4 Deluxe. I now have a 1969 Citroen DS, one of the most innovative cars ever built, with a full hydraulic suspension and headlights that move in the direction that you steer. The Saab, with its incredible road-handling capabilities, the gear shift on the steering wheel, and its peppy v4 engine was the most fun to drive of the lot, although the MGA was also great fun. But here's my dream car: a 1963 Maserati Sebring.

20. MGB-GT by Richard Thompson

I've got a little car and she might go far
She's the mistress of my heart now
She's a '65 with an overdrive
I fixed her in every part now
2 in the front and 2 in the back
110 on the old Hog's Back

She's my MGB-GT she's a runner now

I welded the sills and the old floor pan
Cut the rust with the torch and the hacksaw
Took the Rostyles off, put the spoke wheels on
Got a brand new Salisbury axle
WHen I drive through town the girls all smile
They say, there's a man with retro-style

MGB-GT she's a runner now

Lockheed discs and twin SUs
Original chrome on the grill now
Looks llike a dream in racing green
Competition's standing still now
I sprayed her body, I strengthened her frame
I stripped her right down and built her up again

MGB-GT

An Alpine's fine if you've got the time
And a Healey'll set you back some
TR4 cost a little bit more
But it don't have the same attraction
Hard top handy case of the weather
I don't care if it rains forever

MGB-GT
