do you get migraines?
or sinus headaches? My head feels like it's gonna explode, especially by my left temple. My ears are stopped up and pop occasionally. What do you take for it? I took some Dayquil but not helping.

1. I take painkillers or Co-Advil (Advil sinus). Get your blood pressure
checked. I found that when I got my blood pressure under control, the headaches became bearable. :hi: Feel better.

2. If it's the worst headache you've ever had
consider a trip to the doctor. Especially if you use birth control pills. I had a mild stroke because of birth control pills.

Just a public service announcement. :)

Ears stopped up sounds like sudafed might help. Is that in dayquil?

9. That sounds fucked up; go to a doctor immediately.
Serious. Migraines are dreadful, but I've never heard of one like that.

10. Why don't you at least call the doctor and tell the nurse the symptoms
the tingly thing is a red flag.

3. I've got one today
In fact, I get them frequently and have since puberty. Imitrex is the only thing that helps. It's only available by prescription, though.

I'd definitely take MrsGrumpy's advice and see a doctor if you get them a lot, though. Could be blood pressure or it could be sinus pressure. Either way, Dayquil probably won't help. Try something like Aleve Sinus or Excedrine Migraine.

15. I take Fioricet for migraines.
It relaxes the nerve endings, which in turn relieves the pain.

I learned accidentally that migraine meds cure cold sores.

I had a cold sore (the first since childhood) and a migraine at the same time. The Fioricet must have relaxed the nerve endings enough for the cold sore medicine to work quickly.

My physician is researching the phenomenon now.

7. try heat or cold.
Sometimes I use one of those little things you can pop in the microwave -- a little bean bag thing, heat it up, put it on your head where it hurts.

Or, try a cold thingee -- cold pack, like you use in a cooler, or a bag of frozen peas, wrapped in a washcloth -- where it hurts.

Heat or cold can expand or contract the veins and arteries I guess.

I know a couple of people who get migraines often. Taking feverfew regularly (health food store) helps them -- makes the migraines less often and less severe.

8. Imitrex for migraines - the only thing that has ever worked for me
and I have had them since puberty.

I would call my doctor. You may have a sinus infection.

12. yeah, you may be right
I did a search for different headaches, 'cause this one is weird--had it yesterday afternoon and now it's coming back this morning. I've noticed my ears popping--especially the left ear.

I hate going to the doctor if I can remedy this myself.

11. I've had a bad headache off and on all week
Have you ever been evaluated by a doctor? If not, you should.

I take Imitrex (which is really expensive) if I can catch the headache early enough, and I take Excedrin Migraine of all things - which seems to work amazingly well for an OTC medication.

Good luck and feel better.

14. Find out what type
it is first. If it is a migraine check and see if there is someone close who can teach you biofeedback. The meds you can take are fine but this way you will always have control and it is always nice to do without the meds if you can. It worked so well for me that my body does it without me having to think about it anymore. No more migraines. For sinus headaches, I live by Excedrine. I believe that Excedrine migraine is the same as regular Excedrine but more expensive so check the ingredients.
