Question:

Can you please solve a dispute..When you make Sunday dinner and use tomatoes and meat..is that called Gravy. Anything without meat is considered sauce.. If iI am misguided please let me know. (5/14/01}

I would call both of those things "sauce."

Gravy is what you make with cornstarch (or flour) and meat drippings.

5. My first attempt at a poll question.
In my family we call it sauce even if it had meat in it. The meat however was usually large pieces of beef, chicken, pork, veal, meatballs and sausage. These were removed prior to serving and place in a seperate dish.
