Anyone else a fan of Fawlty Towers?
Does anyone know if it's out on DVD? I used to watch it on BBC America, but I no longer have the dish. :(

4. the episode where manuel lost basil the rat is the funniest tv ever
and the one where manuel had the "reelly man" over to fix the door is priceless.

cleese made a basil the most hysterical character ever to come out of a tv.

i love the old major too.

German tourist: Will you please stop talking about the war?

Basil: Me? You started it!

German tourist: We did not!

Basil: Yes you did, you invaded Poland!

18. Yes, that is the BEST.
The sight of John Cleese goose-stepping across the dining room is probably worth the price of the DVD set.

5. Hell yeah
I have the DVD set and it is well worth the purchase price.

Lots of interviews and good commentary (although none by the cast.)

It's the best television comedy ever made, IMO.

I love poor Manuel and the exchanges he gets into with Basil.

I have seen DVD's advertised on BBCAmerica and I think I've seen them at Amazon too. I know they are around.

21. Fawlty Towers..
.... is, IMHO, the best sitcom ever made for television in Britian or the US.

Every episode is hilarious, and the pacing is perfect. You don't get to go more than 60 seconds without a laugh.

John Cleese is brilliant!

24. It is a pure classic.
John Clease is certainly one of the greatest comedians of our age.

F.W.I.W. is at least moderately left-wing; he appeared on a Party Political Broadcast for the Liberal Democrats.

28. Everything clicked on that show.
The writing, impeccable. The casting: brilliant (John Cleese said, in interviews included in the box VHS set of all the episodes, that Prunella Scales almost wasn't cast as Sybil. Damn good thing that she was). And just the right number of episodes.

It's THE best sitcom ever created...and one of the best television shows ever. Sheer comedic genius.
