4. Ok My dad whos a recovering alcoholic
likes to talk with his sponsor and the guys from group so he can help out and stuff, and my mom doesnt like him talking on the phone with them. She also hates it when he gives people rides who dont have licenses.

7. alcoholism is hard on families
and sometimes it's hard to forgive the alcoholic even after recovery begins. Resentments stay and fester. Alcoholics find acceptance in their groups and sometimes forget to give back to their families (and sometimes are too ashamed or embarrassed to go back to their families).

and for some people, AA just seems to become another addiction; it's like they need that to fill the void left in their lives by the absence of alcohol...for some people it's almost like they've joined a cult.

He really is doing a hell of a job at AA, but its not like a cult to him but an important part of his life.

and that he had the self-awareness to realise he had a problem and the courage to "come in", as they say...some people never do.

13. Which doesn't change the family dynamic
The spouse is still at home taking care of everything and the child still has only one - harried- parent that worries endlessly. What a terrible disease!!

My grandfather was in a Chinese crime syndicate
My great uncle destroyed my granfather's boat when he let my cousin drive it. And never paid him back for the boat.
My 2nd cousin never told her kids she got remarried.

I'm gonna stop here for now.

27. Fourth of July story
One year, my 2nd cousin Danny(the crack dealer) decides to come up from Virginia for the 4th of july weekend. My dad has him bring up some fireworks. Now, Danny never was one for abiding by any laws. He comes up with a TRUNKFULL of fireworks. He and my dad decide to shoot them off over the lagoon at my grandparent's house. Everybody's sitting in the backyard. There's a breeze blowing towards the house. As they shoot off the fireworks, the sparks are blown back by the wind towards the house. Hilarity ensues.

Hey you said Virginia, you seemed to know suburban va pretty well if I recall one time. Well i got this one fucked up uncle who calls his daughter and grandson trailer park trash, really pissed me off because Kelly and her kid are cool people. Hes an ass, my dad took care of my nana mostly, and he claims to the people he works with at the FCC that hes living at home to take care of his mom which eh wasnt doing, 'cording to my dad he was having a little bit of fun with the vodka.

29. Yeah, I gotta family like that too...
And, Mr Kleeb, at least you're Dad isn't actively drinking himself to death, the way mine is. Ugly way to go. My stepdaughter's Mom had boderline personality disorder and killed herself a few years ago, My son's father died from alcoholism a few month's ago,in fact once I get started on my family it sounds like bullshit because they are so weird, and there have been so many deaths and prison and mental illnesses. They all make me look good. Hang in there, though, hope your Dad kind of comes around back to family, people in AA usually do.

34. I do, but I'm not sure my sisters do.....
Seriously, they're not really THAT bad, but they're not people I'd be comfortable spending much time with. I have a 14 year old neice with a baby and a 17 year old nephew with a two year old. One sister is a (supposedly) ex-oxycontin addict who's done time in a mental ward, and the other is a Stepford Wife who'll stab you in the back for the fun of it, and is married to a yahoo whose speech is so country I can rarely understand him.

As a gay man in a long-term monogamous relationship, I'm the NORMAL one of the family and that is bizarre.
