What do you think is a fair price

to put a new roof on my house. A few years ago I had an estimate of $6,000.

$6,000 sounds fair for an average house for a shingle roof.

2. My father just had it done

for a *reduced* price of $5000 because he was a mentor to the roofer, so your $6K quote sounds reasonable.
