Word to the wise
Never run Ad-Aware simultaneously with running Spybot. Ad-Aware thinks the Spybot process is a browser hijacker!

3. Hmmm. I have both of these on my home computer
and I haven't noticed any problems. I've never used them both to scan the system at the same time, though.

While we're on the subject, here's something that somebody out there might find useful:

My computer got infected with DSO Exploit. Ad Aware didn't detect it and Spybot kept finding it and telling me it was fixing it, but DSO Exploit never went away. I figured I just had to live with it--whatever it is.

The other day I downloaded a freeware program called Clean Disk Security and ran it. Now, when I run Spybot, there's no trace of DSO Exploit. Oh, happy day!

6. Spyware Doctor, eh?
I think my computer's in good shape right now, but what the hell--I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip! :hi:

5. I had that too
but a recent update of Spybot seemed to get rid of it.

8. Lucky you
Spybot did its darnedest for me, but DSO was a tricky, evil foe. I was beside myself when CDS finally got rid of it.

This presents an interesting question: Do the same spyware programs function differently on different systems? I'm not at all technologically savvy, but I'd love to know the answer to this....

7. I think the DSO Exploit ref that keeps returning is a bug in Spybot
. . . at the risk of sounding ironic . . .

I don't know if the newest fixes they have to it cures that, but I used to get the same thing.

9. Interesting
But it did finally go away from my machine with the CDS cleaning.

There's also a program out there--I forget what it's called--that's supposed to immunize computers from DSO Exploit. I have it on my home machine.

Anybody know what DSO Expliot does?

10. DSO Exploit is not 'an infection'
nor it is spyware. It is an inherant flaw in Windows/IE. Hence, until they can un-flaw it, it will show up again and again. I forget whether or not they have done this yet.

11. I'm not trying to be difficult, but check this DSO Exploit definition
http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid14_gci991143,00.html

DSO exploit

The term you selected is being presented by searchSecurity.com, a TechTarget site for Security professionals.

A data source object (DSO) exploit is a form of spyware that takes advantage of data binding to gain access to the hard drive of a computer connected to the Internet. Such spyware can be difficult to detect and eradicate, and if it is successfully removed, it often returns.
DSO exploits can affect Microsoft Internet Explorer, Outlook, and Outlook Express. In Internet Explorer versions 5.5 and later, a DSO exploit can operate even when ActiveX controls
