I'm from the South, and my family background is largely rural. Rips on farming/rural folks below are just a joke. Ditto Sugarland, Texas, only on the poll because of their loathsome US House Representative. Feel free to avail yourself of one of the other choices if these offend.

5. I used to live in Sugar Land (proper spelling)

and it is, without a doubt, Freeper Heaven.

Gated communities, ultra-white (except for the occasional Texan, Rocket or Astro Of Color), more churches than bars, Christian "academies", and a preponderance of fundies (as noted by the TBN bumperstickers on the cars in the strip mall parking lots).

Mitigating factors: (1) a Half-Price Books on Hwy 6 (possibility of intellectual curiosity, or just a cheap place to buy this year's required reading for school?); (2) Funky old Hispanic cemetary (Cemetario San Isidro) that provided me some hours of peace and non-prefabness.

Karma in action: Soon after the opening of the (HIDEOUS) First Colony Mall, a tornado promptly took out the side of the Foley's anchor store.

but again, because of Delay and only because of Delay, I'm kind of pleased to have gotten this one wrong.:)
