I'm going to say the revolutionary "Mary Had a Little Lamb", by Thomas Edison, with Weezer's debut album a close second.

2. "Sports," by Huey Lewis and the News.

From the tense, dramatic frisson of "Walkin' on a Thin Line" to the transgressive power of "I Want a New Drug" to the unglued prole/trade unionist angst of "Workin' for a Livin'", "Sports" shows a not-to-be-trifled-with social force in the guise of a band at peak form.

And also, Huey? HUGE package.

On edit: I just double-checked, and "Workin' For a Livin'" isn't actually on this record. But fuck it.

4. I couldn't find the actual passage excerpted online
so I had to fake it.

God, I'm a worse writer than Ellis!

5. I'd say Bob Beamon's long jump in Mexico City or DiMaggio's hitting streak
Those would be my top two
