CONFESS!!!! Where were you when the clock struck midnight on you 21 bday?
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 12:56 PM by LynneSin
In LBN, someone posted that a legislature wants to pass a law that says you can't actually start drinking until after 8am on the day of your birthday (to prevent folks just turning 21 going on a drinking binge at midnight).

I remembered my 21st birthday - I was in Ocean City Maryland with my 3 best friends (who I'm still good friends with to this day). I was the only person NOT 21 so we started drinking early at our condo, then went to some dumpy little bar where they wouldn't card me. When I turned 21 at midnight we went to the nightclub they use to have at the Embers on 21st street in OCMD (I forget the name of it). I spent the night sucking face with some cute guy from the Naval Academy and the rest is all pretty vague.

The next day we went to the Ocean Club on 47th street where they took our picture for one of the local weekly. I still have that picture from my 21st birthday!

So confess where were you and what were you doing when the clock struck midnight on your 21st birthday (or 18 if you happen to be either really old or live in a country that doesn't have such dumbass laws)

1. hmmm...My Sugar Daddy took me out
when I turned 21, I was dating a man who was about nine years older than me. He took me to a fine restaurant and gave me beautiful amethyst earrings and then took me to a bar for a few moments...the rest I won't talk about.

Group Therapy of course is a bar in town. He was almost not going to let me in and then he looked at his watch. He was the first one to tell me Happy Birthday too!

I'm almost positive of that - even though it's been a few years for me.

14. In a bar in Missoula, Montana
Right there in Hell's Gate Canyon. It was sort of anticlimactic since I came from Seattle, where the drinking age was 21, but it was 18 in Missoula at the time. Everyone kept buying me drinks, of course, and I did something I've done on a few other occasions since: I drank myself sober. Seriously. I wasn't high, happy or anything at all. Just stone cold sober. Didn't even get a hangover, which I sure the hell didn't miss. Reminds me of the Fuggs' song 'I Couldn't Get High'.

15. I Was in a Hotel Room...Alone
I was traveling to Portland, Oregon, and stopped for the night at a hotel somewhere in western Arkansas, just off I-40. I had a couple of drinks in the bar, but prospects looked dim for making anyone's acquaintance. Went to my room, where I'm sure I was asleep by midnight.

20. Morehead City, North Carolina
Standing in a gas station with a case of Budweiser waiting for midnight to hit. I was already lit from a bottle of Absolut vodka, but I wanted to buy some alcohol!

I woke up the next morning in my underwear under a mattress with magic marker and shaving cream all over me. I have no real memory of the events that precipitated that situation.

22. I was in line at the grocery store with an entire shopping cart
Filled with liquor and beer to take back to my birthday party.

I wanted to buy a lot for my first legal purchase. So I finally got up to the cashier, and she didn't card me!!

After I paid, I asked her about it. She explained to me that no one underage would be trying to buy that much booze all at once. I explained to her that I was just barely legal and that I wanted to be carded. And so she did.

I have no recollection of what I did for that birthday. I was allowed to drink at home - had been for years - so it was no big deal. I think I worked and then went to a Super Bowl party.

I felt like I had to go to the party even though I was sick since it was a birthday party and I appreciated my friends throwing me a party.

But I slept through most and was very uncomfortable due to the flu through the rest of it.

39. Drunk in a bar in New Jersey
In 1980 the drinking age was raised from 18 - 21 but those of us who had already had the right to drink were grandfathers in. So June 30, 1981 my 21st. birthday - I was drunk in a bar in NJ somewhere. LOL

41. Lynne-I was in Ocean City, MD as well on my 21st
I was drunk as shit with my friends and a bunch of girls. At one point one of my friends, Clint, lit his hand on fire with grain alcohol on accident.
We didn't go to bars. We just brought the party to a place that several girls I knew had on bayside. A whole bunch of other girls came from their work.
I was around 118th street. I ended up skinny dipping with one of the girls and fooling around.

I honestly don't remember much.

I was the mother of a newborn child at the time.

However, I got legal to drink at 19, so the 21st birthday wasn't a very big deal.

And I just went and reread your post and saw the part about being "very old." I am only 38, thank you! LOL.

I don't know where I was when the clock struck midnight on my 19th birthday, but I'd say there's a good chance I was at home in bed.
