3. Are the good times really over for good?
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 11:56 AM by Rambis
Stop rollin down hill like a snow ball headed for hell!
with no kinda chance for the flag and lets all ring the liberty bell- I would say no:)

Merle Haggard lyrics
Are The Good Times Really Over lyrics
I wish a buck was still silver and it was back when the country was strong.
Back before Elvis and before the Vietnam war came along.
Before the Beatles and yesterday when a man could still work and still would.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good ?

Are we rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell?
With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell?
I wish a Ford or a Chevy would still last ten years like they should.
Is the best of the free life behind us now and are the good times really over for good?

I wish Coke was still cola and a joint was a bad place to be.
It was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV.
Before Microwave ovens when a girl could still cook, and still would.

Stop rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell.
Standup for the flag, and let's all ring the liberty bell.
Let's make a Ford and a Chevy that'll still last ten years like they should...
The best of the free life is still yet to come and the good times ain't really

have fun on the right. you're always welcome back, but trade in your Haggard CDs for Grateful Dead CDs.

21. But what if the Grateful Dead CD has "Mama Tried" on it?
Then aren't you listening to Merle Haggard anyway?

First thing I remember knowing was that lonesome whistle blowing
And a young man's dream of growing up to ride
On a freight train leaving town, not knowing where I'm bound
No-one could change my mind but mama tried

One and only railroad child, from a family meek and mild
Mama seemed to know what lay in store
In spite of all my Sunday learning towards the bad I kept on turning
Mama couldn't hold me any more

Chorus
And I turned twenty one in prison doing life without parole
No-one could steer me right but mama tried
Mama tried to raise me better but her pleading I denied
That leaves only me to blame 'cause mama tried (note 1)

Dear old daddy, rest his soul, left my mom a heavy load
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes
Working hours without rest, wanted me to have the best
She tried to raise me right but I refused

6. Just listen to the music you like
who gives a damn if it makes you a "good liberal" or not? I love Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top and allegedly they are on the no-listen list. But I don't care. I like 'em and I listen to 'em and will continue to do so. You should listen to Merle Haggard if you enjoy his music. It seems that there may be too much emphasis on "politically correct" music in here.

16. Hubby plans to learn how to play it on the guitar. Funny thing is
neither of us are into C&W, with the exception of a few songs here and there. However, we like a lot of similar music...southern rock, bluegrass, etc.

18. Hell
I like Hank Williams Sr. and Loretta Lynn. Though I don't know their politics, I don't really care.

What I don't like is this country they put out nowdays. Bad pop masquerading as country, just kill me now and get it overwith.

But the old stuff (I especially like bluegrass, too) is great, in my opinion. And I'm a flaming liberal.
