I fried my motherboard. Can anyone reccomend a good replacement?

Its been a week now and I have to use my son's system when its available.. I have a Compaq 5000 series POS. I took it into a shop and they told me its a strange pin set-up ans I probably should buy a new system. I cant do that and only have $200.00 to spare.
Any reccomendantions?

2. Well, odds are that if you are dealing with a Compaq machine

you will have to buy a replacement Compaq motherboard. Otherwise you will also have to buy a new case and power supply as well (at a minimum).

Most manufacturers of PC's (i.e. Compaq, Dell, etc.) use a proprietary power supply and motherboard layout, so you can't just drop in an off the shelf motherboard or power supply.

So, unfortunately, you might be out of luck.

3. What sauce works best with fried motherboard?

I'm thinking of a pepper sauce, nice and hot. Any other recommendations?
