1. Maybe it would be a good time to learn.
Fewer cars on the road, and all.

3. No choice for me
50 miles one way to work. No public transport. My shift rules out car or vanpools.

That first week going 15 miles one way to work on "Red Sonja" is gonna be hell, though....

I don't make enough to pay $51 every week for fuel. not when everything ELSE that has to be shipped (like everything) is gonna go up, too.

Oh, BTW, THIS is "Red Sonja"

7. this is one reason we got, preemtively, a Honda Civic Hybrid
and this is why my husband drives that one to work and I use the truck to do the groceries.

We were thinking of this when my father offered to buy us a car. Heck we waited until the Hybrid came out... I am serious, and we even had an argument with my dad over the new technology

But my husband just bought a Toyota Prius (hybrid) and he gets 40-45 miles per gallon. And in a year or two, when they come out with a Toyota Camry hybrid, I'll get one of those. That'll make the gas prices a LOT less painful!

12. I will admit to some willful ignorance lately.
Tough week last week and I have been in total news avoidance mode for a few days now. Are they saying we're heading for $3 a gallon before too long?

14. The local mediawhores here are saying $2.50 by Memorial Day
So if that's the case, it will be $3.00 by next summer if not sooner.

All the dumbasses who voted for the Chimp thinking that gas would be cheaper once they took over the entire middle east obviously haven't been paying attention to the prices of everything going up with each and every corporate merger.

Fair competition - you know, that stuff that Republicans claim to believe in - keeps prices down. Monopolies charge whatever the fuck they want because they know they have you by the balls. Or ovaries, where appropriate.

Unfortunately hybrids aren't yet a viable option for those of us who are 6'6" (and not millionaire basketball players). I don't currently drive to work, but if I have no means of escape on the weekends, or a few roadtrips over the course of the year, I would go completely insane

18. It's true that most of the currently available hybrids
aren't big and roomy. Even though I'm not 6'6", I want and need LEG ROOM! That's why I'm waiting for a hybrid Camry by Toyota. Hybrid SUV's are coming, also. I'm sure something big enough for you will appear one fine day...

15. Of course. We live in a rather remote area. On the other hand...
...we own a 2004 Toyota Prius. Get about 50mpg on a good tank, hardly ever less than 40, even with lots of mountain driving.

Even if the price hits $5/gal, we'll be a lot better off than those poor saps driving those humongoid rolling houses that get 5-10mpg.

I'm serious: If gas wasn't so damned cheap, relatively speaking, the only folks still driving SUVs would be the ones who actually need 'em. And those too stupid to give them up.

(rant off)

17. It works out to US$2.95 a gallon in this part of Canada...
...and last summer it was over $3.00 a gallon.

Basically, with a few exceptions, I only drive to and from work anyway...and if I'm working close to home, I walk.

Driving is a luxury. Most people to view it as a right.

Maybe people will get outraged enough at the $3.00 mark that they'll lobby for better public transportation. But history has shown they'll simply lobby for cheaper oil, which, unfortunately, means more wars.
