Anyone see any of the Trois Couleurs trilogy?
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 10:27 PM by tjdee
I just watched "Red", pardon, "Rouge"... it was fantastic. I did catch a glimpse of the other two women in the film...
Were the other two as good?

9. Good to hear...
It would be such a letdown if the other two were stinkers...but you can't go wrong with Juliette Binoche...

3. Almost...
Bleu was an amazing film. Blanc was pretty good, but a bit too plot-twist-driven. (It also didn't help my enjoyment of the latter that the main character's psycho-bitch-from-hell ex-wife was given my wife's name.)

On the whole, the trilogy was excellent. It's a shame that the director didn't live to make more films.

5. Yes, I'm not really a Julie Delpy fan...oh, and he made "Heaven"...
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 11:03 PM by tjdee
of course, I've just seen her in "Before Sunset", which was a not so hot film IMO....I'll definitely see it last.

LOL, all out of order!

I have seen "Heaven"...believe it was the same guy, not sure, which was an interesting little film--Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi were in it. Not as good as "Rouge" though...

13. I thought "Heaven" sucked...

...but, then again, it wasn't really his work. He died with the script partially completed, it was taken over by Miramax, and wound up being directed by Tom Twiker of "Run Lola Run" fame. Everyone from the Weinstein Brothers to Sidney Pollack -- all producers with a very different sensibility than Kieslowski -- got involved, and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the finished film differed drastically from what he had committed to paper. (In particular, I've always suspected that Kieslowski's screenplay was only half-completed, and "finished" by anonymous script doctors hired by the Weinsteins, since, up until that point, the film is an interesting exploration of the mindset of a vigilante, and afterwards, it merely turns into a beautifully-photographed but empty "Romance in the Tuscan Countryside" of near chick-flick proportions, that also manages to ignore any of the ethical questions raised in the first half.)

15. I agree...I didn't know the history...
That's why I said it was interesting...seemed kind of not finished, and the end was kind of....not as good as the beginning,....but it makes much more sense now that I know!

14. Not a good idea...
The trilogy is really meant to be seen in the Blue/White/Red order, since the ending of the last one brings together characters from all three.

7. It's a trio of films done by Krzysztof Kieslowski...they're "french"...
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 11:00 PM by tjdee
It's a play on the French flag and the French motto...

"Bleu"/Blue (The first color and film, stands for Liberte/Liberty)

"Blanc"/White (The second, stands for Egalite/Equality)

"Rouge"/Red (The last, for Fraternite/Fraternity).

Those are the themes of each picture, but then he kind of plays on emotional connotations--blue makes you think of sadness, etc.

And there are of course the obligatory visual elements--red things everywhere in Red, blue things (I imagine) in Bleu, etc.

Juliette Binoche is the star of Bleu, two other famous French actresses (IIRC) are the stars of the other two. They make cameo appearances in each other's film... Hard to explain more than that, but I was very impressed with Red.

Just watched Red on DVD.
