Some fundie fashion fun..... "The Gender of Pants"
I have a little girl in class whose parents will not allow her to wear pants... only long skirts. So this caught my eye...

-----------------------
http://www.centurionministry.org/body/pants.htm

...The Lord wants us to see clearly where this issue of pantswearing by women is concerned. The objective of this article is to expose the deceptive plans of the devil, which seem to benefit humankind in some form or fashion, by removing all scales from our eyes through the employment of God's words, so that we can see his savvy workings clearly...

1. I know a few "dresses-only" people.
What I find more disturbing than the fashion rules is that they tend to discourage girls from getting higher education (except possibly at an approved Bible college suitable for finding a husband) and that women are expected to be in the home (not working) because their purpose in life is keeping the home and raising the children.

I have nothing against women who stay home because they choose to do so with their eyes wide open (I'm one of them). I'm concerned about women who are simply given no other option.

2. Some people just need to get a new hobby
"The prince of this world has erected a dark wall of deception between truth and error, preventing the citizens of earth from seeing the unadulterated truth on the issue of dress from the inception of time.

Holy crap.

How does that passage from Deuteronomy even apply? There were no such things as pants OR dresses in Biblical times, in fact, men and women dressed pretty much the same. That's a prohibition against women wearing tallises and phylacters (ceremonial stuff, men only). It has nothing to goddamn do with friggin' pants. Fundies... :eyes:

edit: spelling

4. Many years ago I was a conservative Christian (not political) and I
spent a summer living with missionaries in Africa and working in a rural dispensary. I had long hair then (as I do now) and the missionary wife told me that her husband approved of my long hair, as there is a Bible verse somewhere that suggests a womans long hair is to the glory of God. She had short hair herself for convenience, as living out in the jungle is a pretty rough life. Guess her husband didn't really approve. I had never heard of something like hair length being a virtue- and I thought it was pretty silly even then.

6. I knew a family like that.
They did, however, let their girls wear cullotes. The horror!
The girls insisted that cullotes were not pants. I told them that it was French for "trousers".
I keep praying to gain the victory over pants myself.

7. I was raised in a church like this
Women were forbidden to wear pants of any sort as they were said to "partain to men." Now you know there are many pants that i as even a gay man would just look too funny in

18. Knew a lot of people like this
Including the sister of a college BF (who turned out to be gay, but that's a whooole nuther story). What was funny was that if it was really cold, or if she were somewhere like a football game, she was allowed to wear pants, as long as she wore a skirt over them.

10. Oh, LOTS of that here.
I'm not picking on one particular religion, but it's usually the Pentacostals or Apostolics who wear dresses only.

If you canoe the river, you will see the women in dresses and the men in long sleeves and long pants floating down the river on inner tubes. I can't imagine swimming in a denim skirt that reaches down to my ankles, but somehow they do it.

Funny thing is that, when I was a teen, the Pentacostal girls had a reputation for being easy. We always used to joke that the skirt stays down to the ankles until ten PM, at which time it suddenly finds its way up around their waist.

Wearing pants and make-up, and cutting their hair, was against their religion, but getting nailed in the back seat of the Ford wasn't, I guess.

And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth." And how are you going to do this if you don't have a LOT of sex?

14. Hey, I've got no problem with sex...
My problem is that Pentacostal women look down on me because I wear jeans and my hair is shoulder length, yet many of them were preggers when they got married.

It's the hypocritical part that bothers me. :)

19. Pentacostal Hair-Bow Women
Was how we referred to them in college. 'Cause they all had that long, long hair pulled back with a floppy bow clip. We were in Morgantown, WV, and if you went to the mall around 4 pm, you could see all the Pentacostal girls from the nearby fundie school in their denim skirts, hairbows, sweatshirts and sneakers.

http://www.centurionministry.org/body/beauty.htm

Apparently the Devil is the head fashion designer.

Also...Let us make a comparison with the fashion of God (coats) and the fashion of this world.  God's fashion covers the entire body.  From the neck to the ankle.  From the shoulders to the wrist. No flesh is exposed in God's plan.

He's also got an anti-makeup comment based on a sentence out of a journal from 1871. Uhhh...you know they quit using arsenic in cosmetics a long time ago, right?

20. Did you read the necktie bit?
http://www.centurionministry.org/body/necktie.htm

snip

Ties which both hang flaccidly from the neck to the groin like a penis, and also point to it, are the very symbol of the phallus, which is so envied by other men and women not for its actual qualities, as much as the social meaning attributed to the gender of its owner. The tie is thus a symbol of the domination of men over women, and of power in general.

21. I need to stop reading this crap
my vision is getting a bit fuzzy anyway...

....Scientists have accredited many physical ills to the practice of masturbation. They found out that masturbation disturbs the nervous system. The lungs and liver are affected and diseases such as neuralgia, rheumatism, affection in the spine, diseased kidneys and cancerous tumors are formed as well. in addition, catarrh, dropsy, headache, loss of memory and SIGHT, weakness in the back and loins and insanity set in as well. So, when the Bible admonishes us to flee from the lusts of the flesh and walk after the spirit we can understand why....

36. I must be full of demons...
"If you can hear the "Oh the Blood of Jesus" midi file, and it gets under your skin, don't turn your speakers off. The demons absolutely hate this song or any song that is about the Blood of Jesus. The more this bothers you, the more demon infested you are. You actually could get some Deliverance by having this tune play in the background, and some demons may actually leave your home or apartment too. Tape the song and play it in your home over and over."

that is hilarious. watch out for me, it bothered me in about two seconds!

34. Oh my gosh...
I read some of the stuff on that demonbuster website.

Here's the best one I saw...

"Well my baby boy has been difficult to potty-train. He is past the age that he should be trained and I was getting really tired of it. I would sit him in the toilet for a long time and nothing would happen. When I would put him back in diapers, he would go! And I was sick and tired of it. So I got really mad, sat him in the potty and told him he had to "go". The baby started screaming and I got the idea that it was a demon. So I commanded it to manifest and give me his name. The baby continued screaming and saying: "You can't make me, you can't make me". I insisted in the demon telling me his name, so the Holy Spirit said: "That's his name, "you can't make me". I commanded it out. The baby had deliverance and he has been potty-trained since."

One guy, a wife, and a whole passel of daughters -- and all the females always wear long dresses or skirts.

Personally, I find it kinda creepy. Especially in this part of the country.

Frankly, if someone wants to say that the Bible says women can't wear pants, I'm gonna ask where the tassels are, and whether they're wearing cotton-polyester blends.

26. Maybe It's Just Me . . .
. . . but are they trying to say Jesus wore breeches ("britches" here in Appalachia)? Am I missing something? The same floor length gown that was completely acceptable in Jesus' time may be seen to this day on the streetcorners of Iraq.

For that matter, you've gotta wonder what word got translated from the Hebrew as "breeches" by Elizabethan/Jacobin translators who wore those funny looking pantaloons and tights?

I just love these "literalist" so-called Christians.

28. now, why exactly do the females have to wear skirts?
is it for easy access for the men? so everyone can get a quickie in a rather discreet fashion? is it the religion of fast & easy sex?

obviously i'm being a bit sarcastic, but it's true. if you want to protect a woman's "virtue" stick her in a pair of tight jeans where it's nearly impossible to hike them down over the hips and you find yourself in a tug-o-war getting them off the legs & ankles.

skirts? piece of cake!

the girls around this area wear long dresses or skirts for fashion (either from Hot Topic or when they're going for that retro hippy/earth mother look)

I work with a woman like that. She won't wear pants ever due to her religion. But her skirts are generally just below the knee length. It's always baffled me. The religious significance of always keeping her legs on display totally goes over my head apparently.

The Pursuit of Beauty:
"Many treat our bodies like a Microsoft operating system. The way we were created is considered the beta version, because what God did was not good enough. Friends, God did not make a mistake, He created you perfect, just the way you are. Most of us do not believe that, and maybe some do, but the love and influence of this world is so overwhelming, that every year or ever so often, these individuals revise their body image. Patches are applied with the aim of achieving perfection. "The modern improvements upon our bodies are an insult to God." They deform that which He made perfect. The questions are, where did the notion of " I'm ugly" came from, what are these patches, and what are the bitter consequences of pursuing beauty?"
