Poll question: Which web browser should I use?
I have convinced myself to get rid of Internet Explorer even though I have it as a choice. The question is simple enough, which web browser should I use? Which one is more secure? Which one is easiest to use?

2. Voted Firefox. I used Avant for a while, and liked it,
but Firefox is it.

4. Opera, with Firefox or Mozilla second, and...
since they are free, why not download all of them and see which one you like best? (Opera has a small ad on top if you don't want to pay for it)

Every one of them has some small security problems, but they usually patch them much faster than M$ patches its stuff. And they are all infinitely more secure than IE even at their worst.

5. With Opera 7 I found myself liking its features and finding it convenient

to use. So without intending to it's now my main browser on my desktop. The text ads on the free version aren't obtrusive but I purchased a license to customise the toolbars as I wished and save space and also to support the developers.

Firefox is a popular choice. You sort of "build to suit" by adding extensions for the additional functions you want.

Try them out and see which you prefer. Security wise, no browser is 100% immune from potential vulnerabilities, but FF and Opera tend to fix things rapidly. Additionally, neither is an integrated part of the OS unlike IE. So that also helps from a security standpoint.

And for those who use an IE shell (like Maxthon or Avant) they are nifty but they aren't standalone browsers. They still rely on the IE engine to make them go. Essentially you're still using IE but it's wearing another browser shell like a suit. MS has made some improvements on IE with XP SP2, but they are not presently available to Windows users who don't have XP. I like IE but even MS says it should be completely overhauled, not just tweaked as it has been to date.

7. There's an Opera 8 out in beta...
I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. Gotta deal with the latest 7.x security update first.

Should be interesting, though.
