If anyone else irked by the abbreviation UR?

To me, it always reads like ur as in ur-lord or ur-grossvater. Why don't people use "yr"? Which one works better?

Also, another slow moving train has arrived and I realize that yr is the abbreviation for "year" but a) not without a period and b) it is hardly ever used, mostly when people travel to ancient Sumerian cities.

the ect. gaffe is omnipresent, sorta like an ectoplasmic error. It is well on its way to becoming colloquially correct. Another one I usually jump on, because I did it wrong for so long, is "remuneration" which is an exception to the rule "n before m except after L".
