Al Green: a tremendous talent

I was just listening to a tape of my college radio show, "The Soul Express," from April 13, 2002. Since it was Al Green's 56th birthday, I played a lot of his music that night.

God, what a voice that man has! The things he can do with his tongue, throat and mouth would be against the law if Johnny Ashcroft had his way.

Tired of Being Alone, Let's Stay Together, Look What You Done For Me, I'm Still In Love With You, You Ought To Be With Me, Call Me (Come Back Home), Here I Am (Come and Take Me), Livin' For You, Let's Get Married, Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy), L-O-V-E- (Love), Full of Fire, Love and Happiness....

To call Al Green the "King of '70s Soul" is a gross understatement. He has to be one of the greatest singers to come out of the United States in at least the last half-century!

2. Let's Stay Together gives me...
chills just thinking about it. I love songs with emotion like that. David Ruffing was also able to put a lot of emotion into songs. Think, "All I Need" and "My Whole World Ended."

But Green is masterful in putting emotion into just about everything he sings. When he doesn't put emotion into a song, you feel really let down. Like, :wtf:
