I discovered today I really dig Latin Jazz
I went to a Latin Jazz festival today and it's great music. It has the rhytym of Latino music, but the soulfulness of jazz. Check out the photos I took on this link.

1. Yeah.
Latin jazz is some excellent stuff. Jobim is great. And some of the Afro-Cuban stuff seriously kicks ass.

4. I love that movie and CD
These musicians I saw today are from Miami, so they're mixed with Cubans, Puerto Ricans, African Americans, etc, and they do a good job of blending in the various musical styles from their cultures.

I would most definitely put the Buena Vista Social Club in the Latin Jazz category. The beauty of Latin Jazz is it incorporates various Latin musical styles and makes it jazzy.

6. Who played at the festival?
Were there any national acts, or were they mostly local?

9. I think they're all local
I was only familiar with the Spam Allstars and Skampida, which is a Colombian band based out of Miami. Here is the line up. Do you recognize anybody?

Performers include Cuban jazz great Arturo Sandoval, Ed Calle and the Fuego Caliente Big Band, Roberto Poveda, the Latin Jazz All Star Jam, Sesi, Lucrecia, Experimento, Skampida, Suenalo, DJ Le Spam and the Le Spam All Stars and the Latin Funk Jam

13. Arturo Sandoval...
Great, great trumpet player. He and Dizzy Gillespie were good friends, too.
