1. Yes, it does.

Not only that but when I spend a considerable amount of time and effort to send a humorous (or at least an attempt to be humorous) reply to a post only to find out the post is several hours old
(case in point)

so no one will probably get so see it, it frustrates me.

10. I look for threads with 0 response...
And reply just to make the person feel better. I know it sucks to feel ignored! :-)

5. Sometimes I don't understand why a thread has been locked, but
you can PM the moderator and ask why. I've only had that happen once, and while I didn't agree, I could see where they felt that legally, since people were passing on ideas about a medical problem, they decided it was medical "advice," and shouldn't allow it. I would think that we could expect to be able to express feelings about most things, and expect that the thought police thing wouldn't happen here. When things are getting truly graphically disgusting, or hard core sex threads get going, that should be done elsewhere. I'm not sure where, but one look at yahoo groups would give plenty of outlets.

And yes, I hate it when there's no rply. That usually seems to happen when there is too little traffic or too much.

3. No ...
It's discouraging, but that's about all.

There's a certain amount of cliquiness in any group, and DU is no exception. It's not a matter of snubbing "outsiders" but prefering to play with one's own friends.

Fortunately, popularity isn't very important to me.

4. not at all
Yes, the message forum is a place for interaction but I also see it as a place to simply see items of interest. I actually do have a visual image in my mind of an actual bulletin board, like the kind seen at colleges and universities, where all kinds of things are posted--from transportation requests to books for sale to posters and flyers for events.

I love it when people here post just a cartoon or maybe some song lyrics. We have even had DU'ers post original art and writing.

If you've ever seen DU when the post-count feature was enabled, you'll know that threads get a high post count even if there are no comments left. Yes, of course, it is nice when people leave a comment but not everyone has high bandwidth. Posting with a phone cnx is very time consuming. I wouldn't have the patience to do it myself.

For these reasons, it doesn't bother me if I post something and there is no response.

Cher

13. That's a pretty broad brushed statement to make.
I'm not really an "Old DUer" but I'm here a lot and I try very hard not to be cliquish, as do most of us. I agree that there are some cliques, but I don't think it's *that* bad.

17. They do exist, but are you going to dismiss everyone in the lounge
because of it?

Again, I know I have regular people with whom I post, but I also try hard to expand those horizons. I never snub anyone because I don't recognize them or because they have a low post count...that would be silly.

25. The point is that people that aren't in the mutual admiration society
DO tend to get overlooked. I've responded to many a thought-provoking thread that was languishing on page 20, with 0 replies, while a post by one of the "clique" members (for lack of a better word), advising everyone that they had just picked their nose was sitting there pushing 50 replies.

32. I think we all have people we gravitate toward because of shared interests
I, for one, have several (fairly obvious) posters I tend to respond to without fail. But I try to read most of the threads -- it's just that I don't always have something to say back. Doesn't mean I'm not sitting here silently agreeing.

34. That's the point. You're agreeing, but not taking the time to tell
them. :) Me, I could honestly care less when it comes to my posts, but it irks me to no end watching good posts getting perhaps one reply because everyone is too busy preening their friends feathers.

40. I guess it's the limited time I have to post.
Sneaking a post in here or there at work, slipping away from the toddler to check in for 2 minutes.

Do I scan first for posts from JJ and others? You bet.

So if that proves your point, then I will offer my apologies up, tell you that I always love reading what you write, and apologize again for the fact that my behavior prolly won't change much.

21. Call me selfish but I come here to have fun
If someone's post strikes me as fun or interesting or "worth responding to", then I do. If not, then I don't. Many of my posts have gone unposted to. I guess people read and moved on. OK, that's life. I want people to honestly respond to me in authenticity. I don't want any "post pity". If you want to be my DU friend, wonderful. If not, that's life.

14. 9 times out of 10, no.
Happens to everybody.

I might self-kick a post I feel very serious about. But if it remains inactive then I let it be. Who cares? It's a post. Not a religious mandate.

22. The rage builds up inside me...
a slow, intense rage. Like a fog...stealthly, stealthly.

And then...as a slow boil...it erupts. My rage. Upon the lack of replies to my threads. It's a terror to behold. It's as if a infinite number of inequities have visited upon me...all at once.

Ok, not really. It really doesn't bother me. :-)

30. I used to be bothered by it but have become used to it.
I came to the realization that what was making me feel bad about having no response was actually ego masturbation. Was I posting to make a point or just to feel like I had? I think I am witty and insightful, but we all feel that way. If you don't "want" you can't be disappointed.

Woof
