the GD is very interesting, and important. But there is a lot of over-the-top flaming that goes on, and I just don't like to get mired in it. In the past, I was very active in GD, and got beat down (sometimes deservedly) many times. Now, I'm just more comfortable reading GD, but posting here

I'm not saying there aren't flame wars in here. Of course there are. But they are less often, AND tend to be ( a little ) more civil. For example, in this case, by "flame" do you mean disagreement or actual flaming? There IS a difference, and I'm just curious which you got.

8. I Can Be Pretty Contentious Sometimes

so when I'm in the mood, I can go to 'the argument clinic.' I was a more frequent visitor to GD in the days leading up to the election than afterward. I've felt 'argued-out' since that time, and the lounge has been a laid-back oasis for me. I expect to make more forays into GD sometime, but for now I'm content to drop the occasional comment without engaging in lengthy discourse on esoteric points.

I think that the regulars in GD think we aren't as passionate/serious about our politics as they are, but the truth is, I for one, am deeply passionate about it. I just need to play in the lounge to blow off some steam. Otherwise, I think I would go to bed and pull the covers over my head and be depressed for the next 4 years.

As for some of the GD people thinking that we are cliquish - there is some truth to that. I try hard to post to a variety of people and I try really hard to post to newbies and to not let someone's thread sink who rarely posts in the lounge.

Plus there have been Lounge posts critical of GD, so you can't deny there is some rift...

today. I have not felt this way since I "resigned" from politics in 1975. I come here to keep my spirits up and to "support the troops", so to speak.
