Has anyone had laser eye surgery?
I'm thinking of doing this. Have you or someone you know had a bad result from going through it?

1. I had it a few years ago
I'm perfectly happy with it, even though it took a few weks to fully recover (some recover much faster). However, I know someone who had a bad result and basically had one eye messed up (the other was never done). The key is to get a VERY good surgeon and not to try to just save money at some place with 12 guys claiming 20 years of experience (between them).

2. My mom had it done
She had great results. Before she couldn't see the big E. Now she can see the big E. Her eyes haven't fallen out or anything. The only bad part was that she showed me the video (Don't watch the video of the operation being done on someone elsebefore you get it done on yourself).
Good luck.

3. My little sister's teacher died.
He died right after having Lasik because he had an undiagnosed heart condition. Apparently something they did triggered a massive heart attack. You'll probably be fine-it was just a freak accident.

4. I did about 2 years ago
I was having vision problems in my right eye.
The ophthalmologist said it would turn out fine and it did.

7. I had it this year, and I love it.
I only had to have one eye done -- a very large correction -- so I will be going in next month for an enhancement. That's where they do the final shaping so I have perfect 20/20. In my case, I had such bad eyesight in that eye that the healing process actually put my eye out of shape again after it healed. But I had gone from 20/100 to 20/20, then to 20/35 by the time healing was finished. They told me this would probably happen, and the enhancement is free. With sale-price surgeons, any possible enhancement is NOT free.

I went to the best guy I could find -- DO NOT use the cheap, sale-price guys! My surgeon charges $2400 per eye and has done many, many thousands of eyes. He also uses a NEW blade (yes, they laser the eye, but the flap is cut the old-fashioned way -- with a scalpel) with every patient. Very few surgeons do that. Ask if yours does. It makes a difference.

8. If my eyesight were as good as
20/100 I'd practically feel as if I didn't need glasses.

I'm about 20/400 in my good eye. 20/800 in the bad one. Every year when I get my eye exam, I have brief discussion with my doctor about surgery, but I haven't been willing to go any further than the discussion so far.

9. Ask around, do your research, and then DO IT ... !!!
You won't regret it!! I had mine done a couple of years ago and it was the best money I've ever spent ... I swear, I still feel like it's a miracle. One eye was 20/800 and the other was 20/1200. My vision isn't perfect - probably 20/30 or 20/40 - but I don't need glasses and I can see better than I ever could before the surgery, with glasses! I had mine done when a clinic in town ran a "special" for $599/eye -- as it turned out, that "special" ran every week without fail ... matter of fact, I think it's still running! LOL

I have heard some horror stories but the tales with happy endings faaaar outweigh those ... at least in my experience. But it is important to remember that this is still surgery, after all, so there are risks involved. Ultimately, only you can decide whether or not the surgery is right for you because only you will pay the price should something go wrong ... on the other hand, it's also only you who will be the benefactor of restored vision should everything go wonderfully!!

Good luck in making your decision, guys, and even better luck if you take the plunge! :)
