The Kill Bill discussion thread.. (full of spoilers, beware)
So, I'm curious. For those of you that have seen the movie, what did you think?

To me, the single most amusing scene of the film was Uma spanking the Yakuza with the flat side of the sword. The single most chilling was probably the 'Does she know her daughter is still alive' line.

I would love to know exactly how much damage 'The Bride' did to Sophie. My wife and I theorized that 'The Bride' probably removed both her breasts, among other things.

I also absolutely LOVED the 'boardroom' sequence, when Lucy Liu's character reacts somewhat.. starkly to Mr. Tanaka calling her out on her Chinese-Japanese heritage. Her speech afterwards had me cracking up.

Anyone else with any thoughts / ponders / posers / queries?

1. Blood
My husband and I just saw it last night. I'm not sure what I was expecting, maybe something more PulpFiction/Jackie Brown. Yet this was more like Resevoir Dogs.

Good grief, there was blood squirting out of some body part in almost every scene. It became comical after a while, except for the comic book scene, which disturbed me.

Sophie kept her legs, because they were still attached as she was rolling down the hill. She had already lost one arm, but I'm not sure about the other. So all that leaves is the breasts to chop off..

I'm not sure if I'll go see Vol 2 just yet. Maybe if it waits a while to come out, like at least a year.

2. Well I think that Sophie only lost a few fingers
if you start seriously cutting off large parts, you loose the person to blood loss. Actually considering her fountain of blood, she should have been dead already.

3. Volume 2 comes out in February
Aah, the Anime scene bothered you, huh? That's pretty much ANY Anime, though. Its all freaky stuff like that. Lots of slow motion shots, blood fountains, pained looks, etc. Those Japanese are way too good at their animation - it almost becomes hyper-realistic.

Ok, I didnt notice Sophie's legs were still attatched. I actually have downloaded a copy of the movie to tide me over until the DVD release, as there are some scenes I'd love to watch over again.

Yes, there was ALOT of blood in this movie - it almost had a desensitizing affect on the audience, as there were alot less cringing people at the end of the film than at the beginning.

5. I was cracking up when Uma told the Yakuza they could leave..
But leave their limbs there, as they were her property now. I also loved the fight with Vivica Fox's character.. and the blunt explanation to her daughter afterwards. Uma's character was just cold. I mean, I can understand why, though.

7. I was bothered by that. I do not like letting little kids know
how much the world sucks. Let them have some good before they have their illusions shattered.

8. Oh I agree, the scene was bothersome.
But I don't think it would have worked as well without the little girl walking in after the death. It also set up a 'Kill Bill:The Next Generation' type of possibility 15 years down the road ;)

13. Another kick for Kill Bill fans!
Saw the film yesterday, and it was every bit the roller-coaster ride I was expecting from Tarantino.

Saw it in a packed house, and the LOTR trailer got big cheers! When they showed the Matrix trailer, it got laughs galore, with one very vocal moviegoer shouting out "Booooo-ring!!" to a chorus of laughter.

:-)

14. I laughed my ass off at the geisers of blood!
I almost feel guilty/sick for doing so. Tarantino's still a tad 'precocious,' but it was a helluva flick! I can't wait for Vol II.

15. Just saw it today
I found it typically enjoyable: blood, violence, snappy dialogue and dark humor. Some elements of the Matrix and Crouching Tiger thrown in for good measure. Can't wait for Vol. 2.

18. Enjoyed it, was quite gory though,
Especially Uma's nasty gnarled toes. Do they have "foot doubles" in Hollywood?

All kidding aside, It was a fun movie.

19. I actually expected a lot more gore...
I'd heard it was much bloodier than, say, Reservoir Dogs. I found Reservoir Dogs to be MUCH more violent in a way, even though there's a lot less actual violence.

In Kill Bill, he did a couple really nice things: switching to Black and White, using anime, and when there WAS lots of blood, it was almost cartoonish, the way it spurted like a geyser. I didn't feel "assaulted" at all, like I did with Reservoir Dogs.

I can't wait to see it again. It was so much better than i'd expected it to be.
