1. Sorry to hear that, JK
Maybe a windoze/driver thing?

Have you tried pulling the card and trying it in another slot? (Don't try this without knowing how.)

5. The driver software, not the card itself
If you have a Dell, you can just go to their site for the download. Barring that, go to the sound card manufacturer's site and download the latest version of the driver. Usually you only have to download an executable that runs and does the reinstall for you.
If you have a copy of the driver on a CD or floppy, you can reinstall that way. This always solves a my occasional "silence" problem.

9. Here's the link for Dell downloads.
https://support.dell.com/productselection.aspx

Select your product model, then on the next page, go to "Audio Drivers". They seem to be pretty straightforward in their instructions.

12. Try rebooting the computer and then try the install again.
That may help. It's worth a try.

6. Your best bet is
to go down to your local computer store and tell them the error message that you are getting. Chances are that they'll give you advice for free. I know you can get a new sound card for around 25 bucks. I don't know what it will be installed. Are you not getting any sound at all?

14. Try a locally owned computer store Monday. Best Buy is built on lack of
customer service. I'm not slamming them nor being sarcastic; big boxes keep the prices low by keeping the staff as small as possible. Salespeople add to profits. Service after the sale? Common sense would say yes; big boxes think not.
