Mouth-foaming RWers not an USA privilege
OK, this happened in 2000, but I only became aware of it now. Terminal nutcase Jair Bolsonaro is a Congressman on Brazil. He said this in the House floor, regarding another Congressman, this one from the Worker's Party, who was at the time considering a run for Governor of the State of São Paulo:
He also attacked the fact that Genoino declared himself atheist, extendig criticism to President Fernando Henrique Cardoso: "We already have an atheist President, and therefore here's disgrace established in Brazil; will the State of São Paulo want an atheist governor too?"

Being declared a second-class citizen by one of your representatives (he's from my state) doesn't feel good. Doesn't feel good at all. :argh:

Some other gems by the same fellow:

- He said in other occasion the President (still FHC) deserved the "paredón" (because he wouldn't raise military salaries if I remember correctly)

- In a TV talk show, bot he and a torture victim from the dictatorship time were present. He said on air that the military's mistake was leaving the guy alive.

- More recently: "The Worker's Party will implant a left-wing socialist dictatorship by 2006."

And enough people keep voting on him to maintain his seat (we have proportional representation here) because he's "tough on crime". Damn them. Damn them all to hell.

1. Atheist president?!
America should be so tolerant. Can you imagine what would happen here if an atheist even considered running for office?!

2. Whan Cardoso ran for mayor, 10 years before running for President,
During a debate, the moderator asked him, "do you believe in God?" He said, "you said you wouldn't ask me that!" and refused to answer. He was running against a RW demagogue (Jânio Quadros), who won largely because of that.

Too much honesty if you ask me. Were it me, I'd say with the straightest of faces, "of course I do!" and scold the moderator in private.

His atheism wasn't mentioned by the media in the '94 and '98 presidential elections, but remember his main adversary in both occasions was Lula.

Lula, OTOH, isn't an atheist. He's Catholic. But the money people do have their priorities.
