Fosset may have to land in Hawaii

Steve Fosset, once again, is trying to fly around the world in a hot air balloon. He is running out of fuel and may have to land in Honolulu. (Sorry, don't have a source, just heard about it on the news).

1. Isn't he in a single engine plane?

2. No! Burt Rutan designed jet aircraft.

Going for a number of records for solo flight, unrefueled jet flight, etc.

There is a fuel leak somewhere and a ton of fuel has flow the coop.

I knew someone would correct me. I have really crappy news here.

4. God, what a horrible fate! (sarcasm off).

We should all be so lucky as to end up in Honolulu!

God I miss my home!

5. Yeah, but imagine his case of Jet Lag.

And he still has to land that thing safely.

It was designed for a single purpose and is not exactly an exemplar of a maneuverable aircraft.

6. He's going to keep going

they just broke in. He will land in Salina, KS (my local news did get someone there since that was nearby).

He is deeply into his safety margins.

8. He really thinks that he can make it.

Salina's not too far away-I will post if I hear more.

9. I guess landing with dry tanks suits his sense of adventure.

But you know... There is a big long stretch of dark water between HI and the coast... And then TWO mountain ranges to cross.

11. He is about halfway between Hawaii and the West Coast.
