Poll question: Mr. Humphries... Are You Free?
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 12:25 PM by arwalden
Here's your poll question: How many episodes of Are You Being Served were there? (Hey! No googling or amazoning... just guess!)

This past weekend, I received an "Out Of The Blue" no-occasion suprise gift from my partner. Actually, it was probably one of those "my-your" gifts that he really wanted for himself, but disguised it as a gift for me. (Like the husband who buys his wife a table saw and drill press.)

Anyway... we're now the proud owners of the DVD boxed set with EVERY episode of Are You Being Served!! In addition he decided to get a copy of the Are You Being Served movie... along with the "boxed" set of every episode of "Grace and Favour" (also known as "Are You Being Served...Again".)

I can die happy!

-- Allen (I'm Freeee!)

9. The Movie Is Okay...
... very predictable in spots. But it's very strange to watch the familiar antics and hear the double-entendres being bandied about but WITHOUT the benefit of a laugh track. I'm accustomed to hearing the audience laugh after Mrs. Slocombe makes a reference to her pussy... but when it happens in the movie, there's complete silence. Weird.

You're expecting laughter to accompany your own laughter... but it seems like the other audience didn't get the joke.

11. You ARE talking about the "Are You Being Served" that...
takes place at Grace Brothers, aren't you?

There were that series where some of the cast ran a hotel or something like that. It was dreadful.

12. The Plot Of The Movie Had The Staff Of Grace Brothers On VACATION...
... at a resort that loses their reservations and is also the headquarters for a half-witted revolutionary leader (who has a thing for Mrs. Slocombe).

You're thinking of "Grace and Favour" which was the original title of the series that's sometimes shown in the US as "Are You Being Served, Again". -- The plot of that series had most of the original cast returning to run a small bed & breakfast style country hotel. Apparently all of their pension fund contributions has been sunk into the hotel as an investment. Even though it wasn't a very lucrative investment, it was still solvent... so the old team bands together to try and run the hotel and turn a profit.

You're right, it's not as good as the original series... but it's still fun to see the old cast together.

13. Yeah, that's the one.
I've never seen the movie (and I call myself a fan! :-))

But, yeah. "Are You Being Served, Again" was what I was thinking about.

Thanks...and enjoy the DVD's. :-)

14. The new characters are entertaining too.
I can't remember their names, but I mean the farther and the dar'er. And the wicked heiress.

17. Mr. Moleturd & Mavis Moleturd.
Mr. Moleturd had a fling with Mrs. Slocum when she was a WWII Land Girl. She, however, denies it! The heiress was young Mr. Grace's last mistress. She, along with the staff, inherits the manor house.

20. It was on for 12 years, IIRC. Only 69 episodes, though,
owing to the way television series are presented in Britain.
