Bands/performers you really should know about, but don't have a clue.
Example: Beck. I have absolutely no reason not to listen to him. That's right up my alley as far as digable music.

It's more a matter of not having the motivation to devote time & energy to catching up with him. If ya know what I mean.

If Beck comes up in conversation, I really don't have a clue.

How bout you? Don't be shy. No one will be reprimanded for their lack of pop knowledge.

1. The Dave Matthews band.
I can't name a song that Dave Matthews performs, I wouldn't know if I heard him on the radio and I surely wouldn't know if he was sitting next to me at a lunch counter.

2. I dig Beck's music too
I've heard some ugly rumors about him, so I kind of avoid learning about his personal life. I don't want a reason to dislike him. All I know is that his parents were hippy artists.

3. Many hip-hop stars

It seems like Nelly, Eminem, and Missy Elliott are the only ones I can tell you about a little. I'm behind the whole Kanye West thing.

4. Air. I keep hearing about them
and I did get the soundtrack to Lost in Translation which has them on it, but just haven't gotten round to seeking more.

9. Air is incredible..............
My album pic for a good intro is their "Premiers Symptomes" ep on the Astralwerks label. Pure bliss.

5. I want to know
about the people I've never heard of. I want somebody who knows my (peculiar and archaic) tastes to tell me about artists working in the 21st century that I could love. I know enough about Beck and Dave Matthews to know that they're not what I'm looking for.

6. The Clash
I don't know why I've never picked up a CD of theirs. From what I've heard (snippets here and there) they sound pretty interesting. Just never got around to it I guess.

10. I'm similarly clueless about Beck.
I could go on and on about bands I maybe should know but don't. Like Led Zeppelin, for instance. I like a lot of Led Zeppelin songs, but I can't tell you the names of most of them. I never bought a single LZ record. The whole death/speed metal thing passed me by. The Grateful Dead are largely a mystery to me, as are Phish. British rock of the 1980s and 1990s? And on and on and on...

11. Most modern pop and R&B.. Can't stand overproduced tripe..
Beck is hardly obscure, and chances are you've heard songs off of Odelay or Midnight Vultures and don't even know it. HBO was on a Beck kick for years when Odelay came out.

But then again, i'm into obscure bands.

17. Neil Young
The amount of bands he has influenced that i enjoy is ridiculous, and yet i've only ever heard 4 or 5 songs (which I really liked but for some reason didnt bother following up)
