I'll admit it. People willingly hurting themselves makes me laugh, ok?
When Jackass was on TV (it might still be, I don't know) I never missed it.

I have a friend who used to make fun of me (good-naturedly) for watching it. She said she had NO idea why I found it even remotely amusing and saw it as a total waste of time.

But....but....but....he willingly got his WHOLE body waxed, including his eyebrows and armpits! What's not funny about that?

What's not funny about someone being awakened by being hit in the face with a tube sock filled with flour?

Now, I have to admit, some of the stunts I didn't find funny. When they involved people NOT involved with the show, I didn't like it. When one of them actually used a toilet that was on display in a hardware store (as in USED it, ok?) I cringed and turned the channel. It was just too much. When one of them (Bam Margera?) put a tiny Hot Wheels car up his butt then went to a doctor for x-rays, I generally didn't get much of a kick out of that.

But the falling down, hurting themselves stuff? Oh my aching sides.

Is that bad?

3. Yeah that kind of stuff.
As a kid, I actually found the three stooges depressing. Seriously. I wanted the other two to gang up on Moe and put that freaking bully in his place. But my brother just sat there yukking it up watching them every morning on SLAM BANG THEATER on Channel 11, KTVT (any Dallas area people out there should be going down memory lane with the mention of SLAM BANG THEATER, weekday mornings, 7 am).

Then I married a guy with a finely honed sense of appreciation for slapstick. And it wore off on me. Now I own most of the three stooges stuff on DVD. Or is it VHS? Can't remember.

4. To me there is a big difference
Between people who willingly hurt others vs people who willingly hurt themselves.

Waking someone by hitting them in the face with a flour filled sock? Voiding ones bowels in the middle of a hardware store where some hapless minimum wage employee is going to be forced to deal with it? Not funny.

(Having been that hapless minimum wage employee I speak from experience.)

But to me, people hurting themselves while trying something they should KNOW is going to hurt, but continuing out of ignorance or some misguided sense of invulnerability? Funny!

5. The person asleep who got hit with the flour-filled sock
was another member of the cast. They are always doing stuff like that to each other.

But the rest of the stuff, I agree.

And I really didn't laugh so much when they did things like take a baby doll out in a stroller, then have the guy pushing the stroller fall over it and smush the "baby" thus totally freaking out everyone who was around him. That's not cool, I'd have lost five years off my life if I had been nearby and thought someone had just smushed their child.
