3. Switch to Firefox.
And then install the Adblock extension.

And then get updates to Adblock here.

This is called "filterset G" and it is updated regularly so keep it up to date.

Instructions for installing filterset G are listed.

6. Only because alternatives offered one.
Besides, "pop-up blocker" is a misnomer. Third party software blocks pop-ups. A browser can simply prevent them from running in the first place by not executing very specific, easily-identifiable lines of JavaScript.

Actually, the main reason I use Firefox is Tabbed Browsing. Once you browse with tabs, it makes other browsers look like a quaint relic from a former era. Kind of like Windows 3.1.

7. Good points all...
is it true that you can't use "Windows Update" with Firefox? Seems MS was able to code for that.

9. Any sites that require ActiveX or Windows integration need IE.
But really, the base install of IE (5.0) that comes with Win2K is recent enough to do Windows Update. About 1 in 100 sites I go to needs IE for the ActiveX integration. Which is about the only reason that festering boil of code still resides on my machine.
