Using iTunes on a PC platform: question
I have a problem with iTunes: songs in MP3 format tend to hesitate/skip, but only on iTunes... not on Winamp or WinMedia player.

I'd like to switch to iTunes, because it's a good program, and because it's the only player which interfaces with Apple's AirPort Express, which I've got my eye on.

So...I've tried updating iTunes, uninstalling it, reinstalling it, and even shutting down every other program on my PC to run iTunes...

I was playing the MP3s from a portable HDD, and I thought at first it was the HDD which wasn't fast enough. But it's 7200RPM, and, as I said, the MP3s work on the other players I have on my machine.

Do I just not have enough RAM? I'm running a P2M 3.0 laptop with 512MB RAM.

2. try converting the mp3s to ACC format
That should fix it.

3. pc isn't the best platform for itunes.
i'll be perfectly frank: itunes was built and tuned for a mac platform. you're not gonna get the same performance on a pc. i think if you convert the music to an aac format, you'll get better results, and take up less space on your computer. but don't quote me. (all i know about is the less space).

4. But I understood that...
Mac designed the iTunes for PC program from the ground, up. It's not just a reworking of the Mac platform.

And, if I convert everything to AAC, isn't there a reduction in quality, and a lack of compatibility with other players?

5. not sure on compatibility
But the quality is the same, from my experience (but that's a non-techie explaination).

7. no quality change, they're smaller file sizes

but yes, there's compatibility issues.

as for mac designing the pc itunes for the pc, i hadn't known that: i thought it was just ported.

your problems are probably mp3 based then.

on edit: i just thought of something: itunes is rather ram intensive; if you're using itunes along with other programs, it might skip.
