why does WIN XP crash when I try to change themes?
I change themes with no problems with StyleXP, but it freezes when I try to change it in display properties, I'm running XP pro on a P4 3.6

5. lol
that would have been my reaction. xp is just the weirdest cobbling together of new and old that microsoft has ever seen. they tried an osx approach with the interface, then had to cobble everything that the old windows os's were able to do into it. makes for a fucked up os.

9. Themes
something I can download that changes themes

You have It, StyleXP changes themes. (When It's working properly)

The problem could be with StyleXP, It's not a very stable program, I stopped using It a couple of years ago. I now use a patched UXTheme.dll file for my themes, the patched file allows you to use un-signed custom visual styles.

Installing a patched UXTheme.dll can be somewhat difficult to Install, the easiest way to Install It is with a tool called "UXTheme Multi-Patcher v2.5.1"

You can get XP themes here.

14. It never ceases to amaze me how many useless comments come out
of the woodwork when someone asks for assistance. If you can't offer advice that is actually workable, then just STFU.

A likely cause of this is missing or corrupt files in the theme you're trying to change to.

It's a bit tough to track down if files are missing for particular themes though (Gee, I wonder how well OSX would work if some of it's system files were missing).

BUT, the odds are that Style XP is the culprit. Especially if you are using an earlier version of the program which was bug-ridden (note to all you Mac fanboys, Style XP is NOT a MS program, it's a third party piece of software).

I would uninstall Style XP and see if that resolves the issue.
