Poll question: What name should the next Pope select?
Never follow a banjo act with another banjo act.

And no, I'm not being morbid. JP might stick around another 10 years for all I know. But if it makes you feel better, you can apply this to Prince Charles, or for that matter William. They get to choose their name when they accede, too.

I'm not doing any child molestation references, not least because of Skinner's prohibition on sex threads. I have a shrewd notion that DUers will leap to the fore on this subject momentarily regardless (though I'm tempted to put on WeAreSoSorry I).

11. The new Pope should choose 'Peter' as his name --
-- because it was Peter who was so deeply human that he denied his association with Jesus in the face of possible arrest and execution.

The name connotes sturdiness (rock, stone), misinterpreted as 'foundation' or 'foundational stone' -- and yet the record shows the man struggling with his human fears and self-interest, not unlike most of us in crises situations.

A Pope unafraid to lay claim to the human element in his flock would be an interesting thinker.

37. It's a bit dodgy though
Much Catholic mysticism states that only the first and last Popes will be called Peter, so if he does choose Peter we know to head for the hills.

Hey, if we're supposed to sacrifice all we hold dear to play nice with the more banjo-laden parts of the country, why can't the Holy See?

He might have to get his marriage to Brandine annuled first, but since she's his sister he has an acceptable reason.
