Do any of you ever feel like the whole country is already gone?
Virtually the entire "establishment" media ignoring obvious scandals like PROPAGANNON that have very serious implications for the country.

The supposed leadership of the Democratic Party failing to put up effective resistance against horrific appointments like Gonzales and Rice.

Etc.

The whole thing sort of makes me feel like Rosemary in "Rosemary's Baby" where you gradually realize that everyone, including your friends you thought you trusted, your spouse, your doctor, are all part of the coven. Like the whole world is some kind of front we're all sleepwalking through.

On second thought maybe "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is the more apt metaphor.

1. yup, since the election.
I have a hard time mustering up the motivation to attend upcoming political events/protests ,or keep up with all the political websites and issues like I used to. I always had one, sometimes two political/current events books going at a time, now I am reading nothing but fiction. I suspect I will eventually catch a second wind and snap out of this.

2. Yes.
And it's really scary when a total optimist like myself feels this way.

I think, as rosy as some people still seem to feel about things, scratch the surface and it's WORSE than anyone thought.

:scared:

So who's gonna hold me now?

to get out of this hole, an awful lot of people are going to have to admit they were wrong. That is a huge obstacle to overcome - egos are so durable.

4. Nope, the country isn't gone yet.
Reasons to be positive:

1. Bush is going to lose on Social Security Reform with some Republicans defecting to the Dems side on the SSR issue. This will be a big loss for Bush because he has made SSR the center piece of his second term agenda.

2. Howard Dean is the DNC chairman. Dean isn't going to back down from Bush and play nice with the neo-cons. Also Dean is going energize the Democratic base which will hopefully result in the Dems winning back Congress in two years or at least make a sizable dent in the Republican majorities.

3. Gannongate is just part of a bigger scheme by the Repugs and the White House to buy favorable news coverage. As more examples come out, even the tired old Lame Stream-Corporate Whore media will wake up and start to investigate the Bush administration.

Anyway, I could be wrong on all counts but I not ready to give up yet.

5. No. I meet too many sane people on the street to think that.
I've taken to turning off the television and going out and about to see what people Really think. :hi:

9. Wow, what a great analogy.
Can you imagine if any one event which has transpired in the Bush administration had taken place in the Clinton presidency??!!!! If Clinton had sanctioned torture? If there had been a Gannon when Clinton was president??!!

Arrrgghh!!!!
