Badly-named businesses
Today I picked up lunch at the Bean Curd which is right across the street from where Terminal Travel used to be.

3. I work in Payroll for my company.
The latest time card program they rolled out (about 3 years ago) is called "Time & Attendance" which is often shortened to "T&A." We also have a general ledger program which is called "ADES." Forgot what letters stand for but its called "Ades" by just about everyone who uses it. We have a reward breakfast every quarter in which people who do really outstanding things get nominated, get an award, etc. and get invited to the breakfast. The year ADES was successfully rolled out to replace an older program, my supervisor (a clueless ditz) presented an award to an IT guy that really worked hard to get all the kinks out and get the program to work well. So she stands there at the podium with a microphone making the presentation. Mind you there are a number of other people who are getting awards for other things, work in other departments and have no clue what this program is or what it does. So without explaining anything she says something like "I would like to thank Steve ... for helping us make ADES so successful and helping to spread it throughout the company." Needless to say, there was more than one confused expression in the room. :eyes:

Oh, when I started in the company I worked in Accounts Payable and saw more than one odd choice of words for a company. The one that stands out most was "Vibra Screw" which was a tool company.

I sometimes wonder what these people who give names to things are thinking when they arrive at a name they think is great. I mean do they all say to themselves "ADES! Now there is a catchy name!"

In fact, I had my picture taken in front of their headquarters! LOL.

Then I had another one taken in front of a company called "Precision Screw."

Funny post, Calico.

They were a scaffolding company that sponsored a women's rugby team. The logos were on the back of the players' shorts, so when they bent down to pack a scrum the 'Instant Erections' logo would be prominent.

I believe the national rugby association ordered the team to remove the sponsorship from their shorts.
