March 1, 1968 - Country music stars Johnny Cash and June Carter got married on this day. Johnny walked down the aisle knowing that his 1956 hit, Folsom Prison Blues, was about to be redone for a June release. Cash has a daughter, Rosanne, (previous marriage) who became a country star in her own right in the 1980s.

March 1, 1968 - Elton John’s first record, I’ve Been Loving You, was released by Philips Records in England. Philips, not realizing the potential of the soon-to-be superstar, released him in 1969, just prior to his teaming with lyricist Bernie Taupin. Elton then signed a contract with Uni Records and began to turn out what would become a string of more than 50 hits over the next 25 years.

March 1, 1968 - NBC's unprecedented on-air announcement, Star Trek will return.

March 1, 1968 - I was born in LA County, California. :)

On a funny note: My mother wouldn't go to the hospital to have me until she finished watching Star Trek. I was born exactly 7 minutes after she finally arrived. :)

I remember the date. I was a senior in high school in Naperville, Illinois at the time. It was a turbulent time politically, and also a very rough time for me personally (for various reasons).

However that particular date I did something that I was happy with. I took the train down to Chicago that afternoon after school (it was Friday) for my first class in a beginning astronomy course at the Adler Planetarium that lasted several weeks. I was very much interested in astronomy at the time, and that seemed like a fun thing to do.

Just one of those things I happen to remember.
