Adventure was such a good game.

I'm playing it now. No matter how many times I play it, my inner child gets all excited when the Red Dragon attacks.

Remember Swordquest?

To bad Airworld was never finished. Torr and Tarra are eternally stuck between Waterworld and Airworld. In a way, Tyrannus and Konjuro won because the twins will never finish their quest.

Kinda sad.

1. Adventure was the coolest!

Who cares if you were a square and the dragons looked like ducks!

Nothing did it for me like getting the chalice back to the yellow castle.

And that bat was such a pain in the ass.

5. Have you ever wondered:

Suppose you left the chalice on the closed gate of the yellow castle and then left for another part of the game.

What would happen if the bat, carrying the yellow key tried to grab the chalice? Would the bat accidentally open the gate and make the chalice slip into the yellow castle.... thus winning the game?

These are things I used to wonder as a kid.

2. C'mon over and play an ORIGINAL Atari 2600.

From before they were numbered, and were just called the Atari.

3. I loved Adventure when it first came out

but looking at it now, I realize it wasn't very good at all. The only cool part was the blind maze and the easter egg. :) I will cut Atari some slack because it was the original. I'd rather play Yar's Revenge or all of the Activision games.

'Venture' on the Colecovision was so much better.

Adventure was so far ahead of it's time that I'm amazed the managers at Atari released it in the first place. (The guy who programmed Adventure was told to dump the project repeatedly because "...it was not technically possible.")

This game is credited with the following video game innovations:

* Game universe made of multiple screens; the character could reach other screens by walking off the edge of the current screen.
* The adventure game format of obstacles, puzzles, objects and creatures.
* The EasterEgg, originally used to covertly claim credit for programmers.

9. Relax.. I said I liked it back in the day.

I probably played it more than any other game until Pitfall came out. Speaking of which, I think that game was equally as groundbreaking as Adventure.

Didn't the original "Rogue" come out before Adventure? I could be way off on that.

4. Is that the one that has EVERY atari game on it?

If so, we have that on our bedroom computer. The bedroom computer is used solely for Atari, NES, SNES, and Gameboy gaming- complete with two controllers for those 2 player games- and some music.

We love to turn on a random atari game, and listen to it loop during smoking sessions.

We are geeks, my SO and I- and we love it.

14. I've sold some of the original game cartridges on ebay

and they're still in demand, no matter how old they are. I have some more that I want to get rid of as well, but haven't had the patience to list them lately. They're not expensive--most of them go for about $3-$5 each. But I know that at least they're getting a good home for people to want them.

And I've played Swordquest too. If I remember correctly there was some sort of contest involved where the winner played in a tournament and actually won a gold sword...

11. I never played the Atari version of Adventure

but I remember the text game well. I understand that all of those text adventures are now out in a single unit someplace.

"You are standing in front of a building, with a road going south."

It was something like that. Capture the bird, put him in the cage, and free him when the snake appears. Keep going deeper until you're at the old ruins with the chasm in front of you. Remember to take the coins so you can operate the vending machine!

Games magazine had an issue (which I've been unable to find) which actually had the map in it. And they talked about the original DOS text game evolving into Zork (I believe). I think I'm going to go looking for it. Brings back some memories.

I could never finish Trinity, another of the text games. One of the solutions was to kill the skink, and I couldn't even muster killing even an imaginary animal. That sucked.

12. Yar's Revenege, Pitfall, and Pitfall 2 are the most replayable games...

Swordquest? Useless without the manual, and the 2 released and 1 not-released game seem more tedious than fun. Especially when there's no jewel encrusted trinket to win.

Wouldn't mind seeing someone finish the SQ: Airworld project though... 21 years ago I loved Swordquest and wanted to know how the comics ended. But nothing afyer Fireworld came out.
