Avast Anti Virus Popped Up Today On My Computer
how does this happen?

Turn on the computer - XP page starts doing scan showing I have trojan viruses all over the place - then I'm offered Afast Virus Protection for Free Trial?

WTF???

Should I delete it?

1. Avast is a legit freeware anti-virus
But I don't know how it could "pop up" on your computer by itself.
Do you use any file-sharing or ad-ware software ?

See by yourself: http://www.avast.com/

2. File Sharing - No
ad ware...hmmmm...don't think so. I use SpyBot

When I turned on the computer it went to a blue screen w/ XP logo, so it looked like a Microsoft thing. Thinking that I went through the scan - then when it was all over, I was being offered Avast free trial.

4. It looks suspicious to me
no legit software would install itself and pop-up like that, faking some kind of endorsement from Microsoft.

If I were you I'd try to uninstall it and contact Avast for further explanation.

3. I use Avast
It works pretty well. You can just get the free version, it's not a trial.

This morning, about two hours ago, I had a trojan warning from it. I was receiving emails. Is that about the time you got it?

I didn't realize you weren't on line when you got the popup. Never mind.
