Goooood Morning DU! (and a Repub story too)
Edited on Tue Mar-01-05 06:39 AM by BlondieK143
Hey hey hey! How is everyone this morning? I'm just peachy myself, but it's COLD here! We have mild flurries this morning, nothing too exciting! Have some :donut: and tell me how your morning is going.

So, I was on the phone (after I worked 14 hours yesterday mind you) with my long distance friend, Kyle (whom I've been friends with for 4 years). Kyle, bless his heart, is a Repub that thinks he knows what he's talking about. The conversation started off when I was telling him of my Boston trip to which he criticized because the town was too "librul" (hehe). So, basically I said that I couldn't be friends with a Repub that wouldn't listen to my points of view. Then he starts trying to talk to me about the Liberal point of view. Ugh. Basically, the whole conversation consisted of him telling me that Clinton was the worst president ever, and he was an even worse person. And that Faux news was WAY too Liberal for his tastes, Newt Gingrich (sp?)is a GOD, 9/11 was Clinton's fault, and GET THIS: He actually had the balls to tell me that ALL Liberals wanted to take money away from rich people to give to people on the streets so they could do heroin. Basically lots of other bullshit said as well. I laid my points out there (to which he said that he's sick of hearing those things because every liberal tells him the same things. I said "Have you ever thought that since a LOT of people say that to you that it could be true?") and he hung up on me. I left a message on his phone telling him that he proved my statement right and I wouldn't be friends with someone who didn't respect me enough to listen to my opinion. So, that's it. 4 years ended over stupid ass, uneducatedness. Am I sad? Hell no. :D

1. If he hung up on you then, it is all on him anyway
Always sad to loose a friend no matter the circumstance but it sounds like you were not going to get anywhere with him anyway and continued relations would most likely be stressful. You did stand your ground and that is good.
Thanks for the story, we all have so many stories just like that.
I do however have friends that I can carry on debates with and no one gets upset.

that many of the right wingers have no earthly clue what is going on but live in their own fantasy world of paranoia and hate. Sad, sad, sad for them. Loved your point that if he's hearing the same thing from a lot of folks, maybe it is the truth!

7. Typical response from someone out of touch w/ reality!!!
I have several friends who are repugs, we have an understanding that we do NOT talk politics!

This guys doesn't sound like a "friend" to me, he sounds like an arrogant person who wants you to either "follow his beliefs" or "hit the highway"...you're better off not having him as a friend.

Because that is what he wants you to do!! He wants you to go "crawling" back to re-establish the friendship, so he can tell himself and anyone who will listen that you're a "softy" and needs to be educated! :puke:

Lots of cold and snow here in Michigan this morning. x(

Hope you had a great weekend! That's too bad about your friend, but it is definitely his loss! That's what I love about us "Libruls", we are always willing to learn new things and will listen to other points of view - even if we don't agree! We Rock!! :D

Your trip to Boston sounds awesome! I am a big fan of the Kennedy's and have always wanted to see the Kennedy Library! You'll have a great time!

I've been doing well. Health is improving, my man is better than ever, and life in general is pretty good right now. I've been blessed :)

Had to leave school this semester. Long story-- About 6 months ago, I was asked to plan a wedding for a good friend of mine. It was a great success (thanks to that "gay" gene..hehe) and I've been doing a party here, a wedding there, on and off for a few months..

Well come mid-January, I started to get emails and phone calls from sooo many people to plan their wedding or party. A light bulb goes off in my head and I figured "Hey, why not start your own business?" With a little help from my mom (she keeps me sane) and my dad (he floated me the start-up loan :D hehe) I've actually been able to get this business off the ground and rolling in the right direction. I feel like Martin Short's character in "Father of the Bride" lol :P

BTW...here is me in sunny Florida on a cruise ship enjoying a strawberry daiquiri...How's the weather there again? :P

We've been having a bit of a cold snap over in the UK too. It's just warming up a bit now though, it must be at least 3 Centigrade now!! My Daughter liked the snow though.

These repugs make UK conservitives seem quite tame! At least you can talk politic's without ignoring the opposite point of view over here.

47. Life's good
Very busy at work, but it's enjoyable. Looking forward to a holiday we've booked in Portugal in May ( such a long time off though.). I need something like that as sometimes it feels like we live in groundhog day. Although having said that we have been having some intresting times with our next door neighbours. We live in a terrace, and we have a shop one side which is always quiet ( heating firm ), and on the other side we used to have some brilliant neighbours who moved just about when we had all become friends but not quite past the we're friends mainly because we live next to you stage which was just changing. Anyway the guy who bought the place did it up to rent. The first set of tenants were were fine, quiet didn't see them much. No we have a new family who have moved in and it is getting to be a bit of a nightmare. It started off with loud music, but not as bad as it could be ( not my sort of music though as it is too garagey for my taste ). Then the girl ( we have so far seen a teenage girl and a woman we presume is her mum ), got herself locked out so we let her go through our house to climb over the fence to get in. Still not too bad. But then the musc started getting loader and later, until it was waking my daughter up a couple of days running, and bugging the shit out of us during the day So we knocked on the door, and they just ignored us and cranked the music up. This went on for an evening and then suddenly stopped. We think the girl told her mum someone had been constantly knocking and she had told her to turn it down. ( We think her mum works shifts and leaves her at home.). So then it developed into slamming of doors ( the music hasn't got as bad again ) and general yelling quite late. But monday morning at 2 am there was screaming and I went to see what had happened and she had set their house alight by accident. So I called the fire brigade, and they got there quick and sorted that out. Before they got there though the 4 boys who were in house with her ran off shouting to her to clear up the grass and open the windows. What to do though. This girl is obviously not mature enough to be left alone for such long periods yet we've not been able to see her mum to say anything. What to do.

Sorry about that rant then I just got on one.

Great food, not enough space. I suggested to my taichi brother and board member that we have the demonstration portion at the Decatur Healing Arts studio and just eat at the restaurant. Either he didn't press or Teacher was insistent, but we were crammed in the same little space as last time.

There was Chinese dance, musical instruments (the stringed instrument called the "zheng"), short talk on the last China trip, and the taichi demos. I did a couple of the empty hand and sword demo. A great time was had by all.

61. Improving
but she still uses the walker when out in public. She's practicing with the cane at home. The senior classes are helping, they get her out of the house and exercising. She wouldn't be as diligent without the class to go to.

Have fun, I gotta work, stupid meeting coming up. :hi:

63. So when, specfically, so you think your friend lost his mind?
He couldn't have been like that in the past if he used to be your pal.

I had a good friend of over 20 years, who I completely lost contact with, because I told him he couldn't bring a handgun into my house when he came to visit--or even have one in his car in my driveway, not while there are children living in my house. (And it's not like where he lives, or the road between, or where I live, are exactly high-crime areas where you have to be radey to Defend Yourself.)

But then again, I probably shouldn't have been surprised at a Gun Nut deciding that guns are more important than friends. Guns are more important than anything to the hardcore Gun Nuts.

64. What an idiot!
And major kudos to you for holding your ground. I don't allow guns around me either and I don't even have children!

I know he's always been like that (well, I didn't think it was this severe), but we just never talked about it. That hurt because so much of this past year for me was dedicated to the Clark campaign, then for Kerry. I couldn't share that part of my life with him, but I was always willing to hear HIS side of things. Oh well.
