I made it to the top ten!!
The union hall called me today for an interview. I made the top ten!! I went in and did a ton of paperwork...they are going to call me in a couple of days to do testing (computer skills), along with the nine others. The top four from that go before the union board for the final decision.

Thanks for all of the happy thoughts....keep 'em coming!!!

Just to know I made the top ten is AWESOME!

9. Gracias!
They said that although they really want someone bilingual, the computer skills are the most important. If the top two people tie in the testing, the bilingual one gets the job.

I'm Microsoft Certified in Word and Excel. I've worked a TON of temp jobs, and the testing doesn't differ much between agencies. I'm not afraid of the testing...bring it! I just hope it doesn't come down to my Spanish skills. I was fluent years ago, but didn't use it for several years. Now I can comprehend, but not necessarily respond.

Study el espanol like you've never studied before ! Speak nothing but spanish for the rest of the time ! Don't worry about the MicroShit tests, if you can pass those prometric tests to get the certs, you've already got that beat. Focus on the spanish.
I NEED you to get that job !!!!!

14. It was really funny
The dress is fairly casual...No jeans, but slacks are the normal attire, it seems. My stepdad said "Every now and then you'll probably have to dress up because Congressmen come through." My next question "Republicans? I hope not!" He laughed and said no, generally Democrats. Didn't know we had a rep around here that was a dem.

16. I hope I get this job!!
No more repukes or freepers all day, dems everywhere!

The only thing that makes me cringe is the 5 AM start time. The good news is, I'd get off at 1 PM.

I LOVED it! You have so much of the day to do things. It was great. :) FWIW I worked as an Administrative Office Manager for years. I now own my own small business but I'm thinking of going back.

Good Luck!! *crosses fingers*

20. You'll survive...
Money is a great motivator! :7

I'm a morning critter, I admit, but I also keep long hours these days (2-4 am is normal). I love nothing more than seeing the sun rise with a cup of java in my hand. Ahhh, the simple pleasures.

21. I'm actually considering
Totally flipping my sleep schedule around. Sleep when I get home, until I have to make dinner, then stay up. I don't ever get much sleep anyway.

Nothing wrong with working for the union-- especially one that's got some cojones like the Longshoremen. W00t!
