Remember the dog I found a few weeks back? (photo)
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 09:44 PM by RagingInMiami
Well, after putting up posters throughout the neighborhood, nobody has claimed him so he is mine. His name is Scruffy and he is some type of terrier mix. He is about five years old.
He sometimes limps so I took him to the vet and it turns out he broke his hip a while back. Perhaps he was kicked or hit by a car. He also has a couple of broken teeth, either from fighting with other dogs or trying to eat rocks.
Turns out, this dog was homeless for a while.
So the vet gave him a rabies shot and a shot for intestinal worms, which he had. He weighs 14 pounds, but he is pretty scrappy. And here he is:

7. I found him on a day where it had poured rain for hours
he was under my car, but wouldn't let me grab him, although he did take some leftover chicken I had given him. He ended up running down the block and I forgot about him until a few hours later when he was under my car again.
But again, he ran away when I tried grabbing him. At about 11 pm, I finally was able to get him in the back yard.

31. My family adopted a stray when I was a kid and named him Scruffy
It is a great name for a dog...especially one that has been surviving on the streets!

I remember your story. I am so glad that Scruffy is now a member of your family.

He is a good looking pooch! Despite all the crap he has been through, he looks pretty happy.

10. Good for you!
I had a stray dog that was the best friend I ever had. He was about 2 yrs. when I got him. He had heartworm. I got him treated and he lived to be about 15-16 yrs. old. Ol' Whiteboy was great.

You will never be sorry you took Scruffy in (most days). I applaude you taking in a stray. It is a good and right thing to do.

biggest saps in the world. She says that is one of the things that initially attracted her to me.

I am a sap, too...the biggest!!

23. neither is Stella
yet. freeperlessinseattle found her in Dec, and I took her on. My apt manager said I could keep her and I fall more in love with her each day.
Today, we went to the country and she ran around like a maniac. she loves digging and jumping and running she's about a year and weighs 10 lbs.
she used to belong to a homeless kid.

29. you know I think she's a Cairn mix
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 10:39 PM by miss_kitty
but last night I was reading about Affenpinschers and she seems a lot like them; I have called her 'Monkeydog' since day 1, and found out last night that's what 'affenpinscher' means. a woman with Schipperkes thought she seemed like them.

Cairns are more squatty than she is: Schipperkes are furrier and Affenpinscers have semi-smashed faces. But her coat is like Affenpinschers, her tail and gait, like schipperkes, and her face-definately Cairn.

They're all vermin hunters, territorial, headstrong scamps. I call Stella 'The Terrierist' :D

26. Norwich Terrier mix
check out this picture ==> http://www.giveusahome.co.uk/breederspages/breedpages/norwichterrier.htm

if i had to guess, i'd say your cute new pup is a cross between a Norwich terrier and maybe a tri-color foxterrier ...

the straight hair, face shape and ears seem to match the Norwich terrier ... the coloring and leg length seem at least somewhat consistent with a foxterrier ...

great dog ... welcome to the terrier family ... congratulations !!!
