*whimper* my new computer is DOA…
Edited on Wed Feb-23-05 08:39 PM by Hardhead
It booted for about 30 seconds. The last thing I saw (okay–no laughing here!), was "please wait while Windows starts." Then the screen said "no video."

I keep pressing the power button, but it won't do anything.

 WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

Just remembered how my boss and co-workers hid it from me today. My boss even tried to wrestle the package away from me at one point. Now I'm going to fume all fucking night.

did you check the power supply?

I had the same symptoms-it wouldn't power on.

Here's my thread-lots of good advice:

2. OK, sounds like a video card problem....
Maybe it needs replacing, don't know if you have that crappy embedded shit or not though, crack it open and see if it caught fire, if not, its not a catastrophe....yet. Just have to get a new one is all.

3. Pull the power cord out for about 30 seconds...
...and then plug it back in. Believe it or not, sometimes this works...

4. Tried a different power cord and different outlet
Same result. The monitor works fine, but no power to the computer.

I'm off to read that thread…

5. Had that problem on a brand new system some years back

Turned out the video card was just not making good contact

All I had to do was unplug the vid card, and plug it back in

Worked for years - no problems!

I suspect a wee bit of shellac was on one of the contacts, and removing and replacing the vid card cleaned the contact surface, either on the card or the mum-board - don't know which - didn't matter - it worked!
